Top Ten Weirdest Movie Moments

Oh boy another top ten list. This time I am listing the top ten weirdest movie moments. The rules are: it can be a moment in a movie that you just can't explain. It can be just a few seconds of something strange or it can be something longer like a musical number. Time to begin.


10 The Singing Telegram Girl from Clue
Clue is as of now the only good movie based on a board game. But I am getting off subject. This is how the Telegram Girl got incorporated. The murderer turns out the lights and there is a knock at the door. It opens and there is a Singing Telegram Girl who says, "I am your singing telegram". Then she dies and the door closes. That was just so random.





9 A tie between Broadway Melody and Moses Supposes, both from Singin' in the Rain
Both these songs are strange. Moses Supposes just starts as this guy giving our main characters some impossible tongue twisters, then our main characters have a mental break down and start singing about the tongue twisters and start tearing the room up. I could not get a clip of the whole Broadway Melody number, but just imagine a cartoon in real life that goes on for a while.



8 Everything is Honey from Winnie the Pooh
This starts as Pooh being really hungry for honey and he starts thinking everything is honey. But he realizes that he is eating mud and stops. That's like if in the middle of one of my reviews a picture of a singing dancing walking talking hat popped up.








7 The Santa Clause Speech from Gremlins
This one comes out of nowhere. Our heroes are trying to figure out how to stop the Gremlins from destroying the town. Then for no reason Kate starts talking about the worst Christmas of her life. Once she finishes her monologue it is never brought up again.

6 The Pink Elephants from Dumbo
It starts with Dumbo getting drunk (That sounds so weird when you say it out loud). Then he starts hallucinating pink monsters elephants. It is especially weird at the end where the elephants turn into cars, airplanes, and boats then explode.








5 The Chase Scene from The Thief and the Cobbler
This is like a surrealist painting cartoon. I think the video speaks for itself. This whole movie is really, really odd. It's like Dr. Seuss meets Arabian Knights meets Escher.






4 The Costume Ball from Labyrinth
Our hero is transported inside a bubble where a costume party is going on...of course there is. It's not a normal costume party: everything is in slow motion...and a song is playing in the background...did I mention it is inside a bubble?




3 Let's Make Music Together from All Dogs Go to Heaven
This all starts when a giant alligator tries to eat our hero. But our hero sings and the alligator starts singing too. This is very odd. I mean, the alligator never comes back again except for at this one scene at the end. Also there is a giant clam...











2 Yodel-Adle-Eedle-Idle-Oo from Home on the Range
Jumping color changing cows being lead by a yodeling dancing sparkly cattle rustler. Do I have to say anything else?






1 The Tunnel of Doom from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
This starts when everyone gets on a boat of doom and they enter a tunnel of doom. Inside the tunnel they see some of the most bizarre imagery in G rated film, and Wonka also recites this creepy poem. Once it's over no one talks about it. If I was there, I would have ran away screaming after we left the Tunnel.

WORLDS MOST UNPOPULAR PRODUCT: SUBMARINE SREEN DOORS 

The Secret World of Arrietty

I am back and I am reviewing The Secret World of Arrietty. It is based on the book The Borrowers by Mary Norton. Well it is time to start the review.

Beetle vs Borrower

The movie starts with a sick boy named Shawn (David Henrie) who is staying the summer in his Mother's childhood home with his great aunt Jessica (Gracie Poletti). On the way to the house, Shawn thinks he sees a one inch tall girl. The tiny girl makes it to her house after escaping the cat. The girl's name is Arrietty (Bridgit Mendler); she is one of The Borrowers who are one inch high people who live in the walls of the house and steal "Borrow" things that people won't notice missing. Arrietty returns to her mother Homily (Amy Poehler) and father Pod (Will Arnett). That night she goes borrowing with her father to get some sugar and tissue paper. They get the sugar but when they get the tissue paper Shawn sees them. They make it home as fast as they can.

The Dollhouse

The next day they tell Homily and they decide that have to move in fear of getting squashed like a bug. Shawn gives Arietty the sugar cube that she dropped while escaping Shawn the other night. She is afraid of Shawn and doesn't take the sugar cube. Her parents are making preparations for moving. Arriety goes to Shawn's room; she gives the sugar cube back and tells him that she and her family are moving. But Arriety attracts the attention of a crow who tries to eat her. Luckily the maid Hara (Carol Burnett) shoos the crow away. However Hara does get a bit suspicious of why a crow tried to attack Shawn. That night Shawn tells his aunt of the incident and she tells him that his grandfather thought that little people lived in the house. He even built a dollhouse for them to live in. With working lights, running water, and even a working stove. Meanwhile Pod comes home with another Borrower named Spiller (Moises Arias) who helped him home after he broke a leg. Spiller says that there are more Borrowers and then leaves.

Arriety Tells Shawn that she is leaving because he saw The Borrowers. He tells Arriety that he is getting an operation soon and he may not live. But Shawn feel bad for The Borrowers so he takes the kitchen out of the dollhouse and puts it in the Borrower's house. But Hara is still Suspicious so she traps Homily in a jar and calls pest control. Arriety finds out that Homily has been kidnapped so she gets help from Shawn to find her. They find Homily and put the kitchen from the dollhouse back in the dollhouse. So now Hara has no proof that the borrowers exist and Jessica and the exterminator think she is crazy. Later that night The Borrowers leave the house; Arriety say goodbye to Shawn. Arriety and her Family Get on a boat with Spiller and Shawn gives a quick Epilogue narration. The End

This is an amazing movie. The story is simple yet it works to the movie's advantage and let me just say this has amazing animation. Especially the backgrounds, it looks like a painting. However some questions do go unanswered like "Are there more Borrowers?" or "Why does the villain even want to catch The Borrowers?". Other then that, this is a pretty good movie; check it out some time.

Changes From Original: It is a house in the country instead of a house in the city.  The villain in the original instead of an evil maid is an evil business man named Mr. Potter.....not the one from It's a Wonderful Life. Changing the villain was a good idea because evil business men are so cliched. In the original there was a character named Peagreen who was removed in this version.

Which is Better: Personally, I like the remake better. Of course it depends if you prefer drama for comedy. I never found the original to be that funny and this version takes the idea of tiny people who live in your house more seriously. So this time I think the remake wins.

THE SHUFFLER WORLD: CREEPIEST CARTOON CHARACTER

Freaky Friday (2003)

In keeping with remake month I will be reviewing another remake. This time it is Freaky Friday. It is based on a book of the same name by Mary Rogers. Well time to start.





 
We start in the life of a mother named Tess Coleman (Jaime Lee Curtis) and her daughter Anna Coleman (Lindsay Lohan). That's odd Lindsay Lohan was in another remake to a Disney movie I recently reviewed. Anyway, Anna goes to school and gets an F in English class and her enemy Stacy (Julie Gonzalo) hits her on the head with a dodge ball. Anna gets sent to detention. Tess talks to the caterer for her wedding and goes to her job. When Anna gets home she practices with her rock band. One of the members of the rock band tells Anna that they have an audition the next day. But it takes place on the same day as her mother's wedding rehearsal so her fiends tell her to ask her mom if she can come. That night Tess, Anna, and the rest of the family go out for Chinese food. Anna and Tess have an argument and the woman who owns the restaurant (Lucille Soong) gives them a fortune cookie. When they open the cookie and an earthquake happens...yeah that's a thing. But only Anna and Tess feel the earthquake.

The next day when Tess wakes up she realizes that she is in Anna's body. Tess goes to her room and  finds out that Anna is in her body. So they decide to try live the day as the other. Tess goes to Anna's school where she is given a test on "Hamlet". She answers the test correctly but the teacher Mr. Bates (Stephen Tobolowsky) gives her an F on the test. Tess recognizes Mr. Bates as a boy who asked her out to the dance and she said no so he gets his revenge by giving Anna bad grades. Meanwhile Anna goes to Tess's work. After work someone tells her that she is appearing on a talk show. At school Tess has to take Anna's test but Anna's enemy Stacy makes it look like Tess was copying her test. So she get's sent to detention. After detention one of the teens that work at the school named Jake (Chad Michael Murray) lets her into the teachers lounge so she can retake her test. Meanwhile Anna appears on the talk show and it is pretty much a disaster. So Tess and Anna go the Chinese restaurant where they got switched. The woman says that when the fortune in the cookie comes true they will be back to normal.

That night at the wedding rehearsal Anna's friend sneak into the rehearsal. They ask if they can take Anna to the band auditions; they say yes. But Tess is still in Anna's body so Anna goes backstage at the concert and plays the guitar and Tess just fakes it. But they are still in the wrong body's and it is time for Tess to give a toast. So Anna in Tess's body gives a heartfelt speech and that switches them back. Tess and her fianceè get married and Anna's rock band is a success.The End.

This movie was surprisingly good. Both actresses do a good job impersonating the other and it can feel emotional at times. But there are a few problems. For example, it is very dated. Like you know when it is supposed to take place. Also Stacy never really gets her comeuppance. I mean Tess does sabotage her test but we never see the end result of that. This was a good movie I do not regret seeing.

Changes From Original: Where do I start? The sub plot about the wedding Rehearsal is new and it is a band audition instead of a water skiing show. There is a reason for why they switch this time. However it is a dumb reason (seriously, a magic fortune cookie?). The mother has a money job in this version which does lead to some comical moments. The personalities of Anna and Tess are way different from the original. Over all they are very different.

Which is Better: This one is totally a matter of preference sense they are very different. The Original is just your normal body swap senerio. The remake does add some new stuff to the senerio. But for me...I still can't decide.

THE MECHANICAL-MULTICOLORED-MAN-BUG-NIGHTMARE-BIGFOOTED-THING

101 Dalmatians (1996)

Well it's still March so let's continue remake month with 101 Dalmatians. It based on the book The Hundred and One Dalmatians by Dodie Smith. Let us begin the review.







The movie starts in London with a video game designer named Roger Dearly (Jeff Daniels)and his pet dalmatian Pongo. One day Roger and Pongo go for a walk in the park. While in the park, Pongo sees another Dalmatian named Perdy who Pongo falls in love with. Pongo chases after Perdy and accidentally tosses Roger in the pond. Pongo finally catches up to Perdy and Perdy's owner Anita Campbell-Green. Roger catches up with Pongo but Perdy tosses Anita in the pond. So Roger takes Anita to his house. They realize that they are in love and they get married. Pongo and Perdy also get married. Anita is inspired by the dalmatians. So when she goes to her job as a fashion designer she draws a sketch of a spotted dress and her boss named Cruella de Vil (Glenn Close) likes the dress. Cruella likes the dress so much that she even is interested in making it out of real dalmatian fur.

Cruella learns that Perdy just gave birth to 15 puppies. She offers Roger and Anita  a decent price for the puppies. They say no and Cruella say she will get even. So she hires two thugs named Jasper (Hugh Laurie) and Horace (Mark Williams). The thieves kidnap all 15 of the puppies and take them to an old mansion. So Pongo and Perdy spread the word of the missing puppies and it eventually reaches some farm animals who think they saw the puppies. So two of the dogs go into the mansion and the rest of the animals sabotage the thieves' car. Meanwhile the message of where the puppies are comes back to Pongo and Perdy so they set off to find the puppies. Meanwhile back at the mansion it turns out that there are a bunch of other dalmatians there too.



              ***SPOILER ALERT STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE END RUINED***

 The sheep dog helps the puppies escape and for the next several minuets it is just unfunny slapstick. It is hard to explain why it's unfunny without a visual aid but I will do my best. Well it's more disturbing then unfunny. For example: The two Thieves are trying to climb over an electric fence but they slip and end up sitting on it. It is funny in a cartoon or other live action movie but not in this because the cartoons reaction is so over the top. In this movie we rarely get an cartoonish over the top reaction. Anyway the dalmatians make it out of the mansion and the thieves and Cruella chase after them. Pongo and Perdy catch up to all 99 puppies in a barn in a village. Pongo Perdy and the puppies escape Cruella and the farm animals knock Cruella into a vat of molasses. The police come in and arrest Cruella. The dalmatians get back home. But Roger and Anita realize that they can't raise 101 dalmatians in a small house in London. So they move to a large house in the country. The End.

This movie is not that good. The slapstick is not that funny. I know your supposed to hate the villains but the wild animals catch the thieves car on fire and drop Cruella into a vat of molasses. I think the writer went a little overboard when making the villains get their defeat. But I do like how they tried to tell the story more visually by making the dogs silent. The best part is probably Glenn Close as Cruella De Vil; she plays the part so insane that it is very enjoyable. Overall I do not recommend the movie.

Changes From Original: It is live action obviously. None of the animals talk. There is a sub plot involving one of the dalmatians getting left at the mansion and trying to catch up. But it only exists so that they can have a character say "Make that 101 dalmatians sir". Roger is a video game designer instead of a musician. They added a character named Skinner who is one of Cruella's crazy henchman. He probably could have been cut out and no one would have noticed. Cruella also has a butler named Alonzo who also is kind of pointless. that's about it for changes.

Which is Better: The original does have some flaws but it is the better movie. The original is just more interesting with much better characters and it doesn't have unnecessary sub plots or unnecessary characters. I do think the Cruella in this version is better just because she is more crazy. But  overall the original is much better.

ATOP THE HEAD OF MR. BAGALOO

The Parent Trap (1998)

It is March so I decided to make March Remake Month. It is where all March I review remakes. So lets start with a remake to The Parent Trap. It is based on the book, Lottie and Lisa by Erich Kästner. Let us begin.









We start at a summer camp where a girl named Hallie Parker (Lindsay Lohan)  arrives. She goes to her cabin. Meanwhile another girl named Annie James (also Lindsay Lohan) arrives at camp. Later they both fight each other in fencing. Annie beats Hallie. When they remove their fencing masks they realize that they both look alike. They get angry at each other and start playing pranks on each other. One of the pranks dumps paint on the camp leader and the camp leader sends both the girls to live in the same cabin. Eventually they realize that they have a lot in common. Besides the fact that they look the same they both like Oreos covered in peanut butter, and their parents are divorced. But then they realize that Hallie has a picture of Annie's mother and that Annie has a picture of Hallie's father which means...They are twins *dramatic music*. So they decide to switch places so that Annie can meet her father and Hallie can meet her Mother.

They spend time getting to know the other. When camp is over Annie goes to California as Hallie to meet her father and Hallie goes to London as Annie to meet her mother. In London Hallie meets her mom named Elizabeth (Natasha Richardson) and her grandfather (Ronnie Steven) and her butler Martin (Simon Kunz). Meanwhile Annie goes to California as Hallie and meets her father, Nick (Dennis Quaid), her house keeper Chessy (Lisa Ann Walter) and Nick's fiancée Meredith Blake (Elaine Hendrix) who only loves Nick for his money. Annie gets worried about Meredith so she gives Hallie a phone call about it. So Hallie tells her mother that she is really Hallie and Annie tells Chessy that she is Annie. So Hallie brings her mother to California to stop the engagement. At a hotel in San Fransisco the girls reveal to their father that they switched. That night just like in the original the girls recreate their parents first date, only this time instead of a restaurant  the parents meet on a cruise. So with the help of Grandpa, the girls rented a yacht and the parents have dinner on it.

But Hallie and Annie are being switched back. So they keep switching personalities back and fourth  and it confuses their parents. So they make a deal to all go on a camping trip. But Meredith is unhappy about it so Elizabeth says that she can come along instead of her. The girls take advantage of Meredith being there and start playing pranks on her like putting a lizard in her hair and giving her bug spray that attracts bugs. Eventually they put her air-mattress in the lake...with her on it. OK that is kind of messed up. Can't they just draw a mustache on her face and cover her feet in honey? So Meredith says the engagement is off and leaves. So they go home and Nick and Elizabeth decide that they are in love. But Hallie and Annie still have to go home with the right parents. So Annie goes back to London but Hallie and Nick take a faster flight to London and meet them there so they decide that they can't live without each other and come back together again. The End.

I like this movie. Lindsay Lohan gives a good preference as both the girls and it has a good supporting cast. You really feel for the girls when they see their Mother/Father for the first time. The only problem is that Meredith is sort of a cliched type of character. You know, the stick in the mud that never gets the joke. Other than that I like the movie a lot.

Changes from original: The plot is pretty much the same, the only real difference is the ending. The characters are the same as well but there are some changes and new things added. Let me list them: All the characters' names are changed. Annie lives in London instead of Boston, and Nick now owns a vineyard. The only major update is the special effects. I was expecting them to make the character of the fiancée less cliched or cut her out entirely. That's it for this section.

Which is better: They are both about the same. Most of the changes from the original version are pretty minor. They both have a great lead actress and great supporting cast. Overall it just comes down to which one you personally like better. As for me I think it's a tie.
