Some Like It Hot

Hello, it's me again and I am ready for another review. I recently reviewed the movie Bringing Up Baby and I am reviewing another movie like it, just without the leopard, or Cary Grant, or-actually forget it, it's nothing like Bringing Up Baby. So let's get this review started as I review Some Like It Hot.

The movie starts in 1929 where two musicians named Joe (Tony Cutis) and Jerry (Jack Lemmon) are working at the club of a gangster named Spats Columbo (George Raft) but the police show up and arrest everyone. Jerry and Joe escape. They need to find a new job now but the only jobs available are in an all girls' band and a one night job all the way across town. They decide to do the one night job but when they are getting their car filled up they witness Spats and his henchmen ax off another gangster named Toothpick Charlie (George E Stone). So Jerry and Joe are on the run from Spats and they come up with the plan to disguise themselves as women and join that all girls' band. Joe says his name is Joesephine and Jerry says his name is Daphnie. They get on a train to Florida where they meet a member of the band they joined named Sugar (Marilyn Monroe).



They make it to Florida where they are staying at a hotel. At the hotel, Joe steals someone's suitcase and disguises himself as a Millionaire and pretends to be the president of Shell Oil in order to be able to date Sugar. Meanwhile, a man named Osgood Fielding (Joe E. Brown) asks Jerry to a night out on his Yacht. But Joe tells Jerry to tell Osgood that he would get seasick so that he and Sugar can go out on the yacht. They both have a good night out but it turns out that Spats and his goons (as well as a bunch of other gangsters) are staying in the hotel for some sort of gangsters meeting. Joe and Jerry realize that they need to escape the hotel. But this means leaving Sugar behind.

Joe does his millionare voice and informs Sugar that he is leaving. They climb out the window but the gangsters spot them, so they hide in the gansgter's dining hall where the gangsters give Spats a cake to congratulate him. But it turns out that a man with a gun was inside the cake and they ax off Spats. Joe and Jerry leave the room before that happens to them. Sugar catches on to what's going on and they all escape on Osgood's boat. The End.

I like this movie. It's very funny and the actors do a really good job in their parts. The movie wouldn't be as good if other actors played the rolls. So this is a very good comedy that I recommend. See you next time.

Bringing Up Baby

I feel like reviewing something funny. What to watch, what to watch? I know, Leopards are funny. Let's watch Bringing Up Baby. So keep an eye out for any Leopards as I review Bringing Up Baby.

We start with a scientist named David (Cary Grant) who is assembling a brontosaurus skeleton. David is engaged to a woman named Alice (Virginia Walker) and they are getting married the next day. David goes to play golf with a man named Mr. Peabody (George Irving) who is the lawyer for a woman who might be donating $1,000,000 to the museum that he works at. But a woman named Susan (Katharine Hepburn) keeps destracting him by sitting in his car and she starts driving away with it, so David chases after it and tells Mr. Peabody that he will be with him in a minute. David goes to see Mr. Peabody for lunch. But Susan accidentlly gets him to steal a purse and he leaves the restaraunt before he can see Mr. Peabody. Susan drives David to Mr. Peabody's house but when trying to get his attention by throwing rocks at his house they accidently knock him out. The next day David gets a call from Susan saying that she has a Leopard named Baby (Nissa) that her brother Mark caught and gave to her. She asks if David would like to help her take it over to her house in Connecticut. Initialy he says no but she tricks him into it. They make it to the house and David wants to leave but Susan is intent on making him stay.



As it so happens, David brought a package that he got in the mail which is the last bone of the dinosaur he is assembling, and Susan's dog George (Astra) steals it and buries it. So David and Susan follow around George trying to find the bone. Meanwhile Susan's Aunt Elizabeth (May Robinson) shows up and starts asking questions about David. Susan tells her that his name is Bone and that he is a big game hunter who is recovering from a nervous break down. Also as it happens, Elizabeth is the woman who was going to donate the money to the muesam. That night a real big game hunter named Major Applegate (Charles Ruggles) comes over for dinner and asks David a lot of questions but doesn't pay attention to him and David continues to follow George. Baby escapes and the gardner, Mr. Gogarty (Barry Fitzgerald), sees Baby and tells everybody but they think he is drunk. David goes to call the zoo to take Baby away. But it turns out that Baby was a gift for Elizabeth, so Susan and David have to go out to catch them before the zoo workers do. Meanwhile at a local circus an actual dangerous leopard is being taken away. But Susan and David spot it, thinking it is Baby, and break it out of the cage, but it runs off. So now two Leopards are on the loose.

Meanwhile Major Applegate and Gogarty are trying to shoot Baby but David and Susan tell them that Baby is harmless, so they put their gun away. But then the dangerous Leopard scares them. They track down the Leopard to the roof of a house but the man in the house thinks they are crazy and they end up getting arrested. Susan tells the Constable (Walter Cattlett) who she is but when the constable calls Elizabeth she thinks Susan is in bed. As soon as Elizabeth hangs up Major Applegate tells Elizabeth what happened, so they head over to the police station. But the police don't believe them because they were just on the phone. When the Constable calls home the maid says that everyone is in bed. So Elizabeth, Applegate, and Gogarty are arrested. Susan pretends to be a gangster and tricks the police into letting her go. But the circus men come in and inform everyone about the escaped Leopard. Just then Baby comes in but David tells them it's a different Leopard. Then Alice and Mr. Peabody come in and tell the Constable about the whole thing. But then Susan comes in with the dangerous Leopard and it breaks loose. Fortunetly David locks it in a jail cell. A week or two later, Alice decides against marrying David bur Susan tells David that they found the dinosaur bone and Elizabeth is donating the million dollars to the mueseam. The End.

Bringing Up Baby is a great movie. Most of the points in this movie go to the Comedy which is amazingly written and timed and probably has one of the funniest endings ever. The fact that they managed to train a Leopard is pretty cool and Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn give great performances. So if you want a screwball comedy that will have you laughing, pick up Bringing Up Baby. See you next time.

Groundhog Day

Well I made it seem like I would review a Planet of the Apes sequel in the last review but I am not because....aliens stole my only copy of Beneath the Planet of the Apes. So until those aliens come back with my copy, I will review Groundhog Day...even though I should have reviewed this in February. But whatever, let's go.








We open with a weather man named Phil Conners (Bill Murray) finishing a report. Then he heads on his way to the town of Punxsutawney to report on the Groundhog Day celebrations with his producer Rita (Andie MacDowell) and his camera man Larry (Chris Elliot). He spends the night in a Bed and Breakfast and he wakes up the next day for the ground hog report. On the way he is stopped by his annoying friend from high school Ned Ryerson (Stephen Tobolowsky) who wants Phil to buy some insurance. When Phil gets to the festivities, he gives a sarcastic report and decides he wants to get out of town as soon as possible. But a blizzard keeps him from leaving town and he has to spend another miserable day in town...OR DOES HE?! When he wakes up it is still February second and every thing happens like yesterday. He meets Ned, he does the report, and the blizzard keeps him in town. When he wakes up the next day it is still Groundhog Day. He tries to tell Rita and Larry, but they just brush it off as him being weird.

 He decides to find ways to pass the time like robbing some incompetent bank guards, dressing like Clint Eastwood, and pretending to know random strangers. Eventually he decides he loves Rita and he spends most of the days memorizing all of her favorite things--that sounds charmingly creepy. But all of his attempts fail and he just gives up on that. He comes to the conclusion that Punxsatawney Phil is the reason all this is happening, so he kidnaps him and drives him away as he is chased by cops, Larry, and Rita. However Phil drives off the edge of a cliff and wakes up on the same day once again. After failing to kill himself several times he manages to convince Rita that he is stuck in the same day. So she tries to stay up all night with him but the same thing happens again and he wakes up on Ground hog day.

After this occurrence he decides to make himself  a better person. Phil decides to put some actual effort into his report, he is nice to Ned, and he also decides to take piano lessons as a hobby. He also takes his time to memorize every bad thing that will happen in town and stopping it from happening. It's kind of like if Superman could see into the future. Once he masters piano playing he performs at a party and Rita decides to go on a date with Phil. On the date Phil builds Rita an ice sculpture of herself. The next day...IT'S FEBUARY 3RD! To end it all Phil tells Rita he wants to live in Punxsatawney...even though he was trapped their for about 50 years oh whatever. The End.

Groundhog Day is an really good movie. Not only is it really really funny but the concept of the movie is quite original and it is a romantic comedy yet it doesn't use any of those rom-com cliches you have seen 1,00000 times. One of the only things I didn't like is that Phil seems  to be a bit of a jerk at first but as the movie goes on Bill Murray plays him as more of a likable jerk. But I would recommend this movie to watch on Groundhog Day or whenever I guess. I will let you know when I find those aliens.

Meet Me in Saint Louis

It has been a while since I have reviewed a  musical (I think). So here is a  very good very classic musical movie, Meet Me in Saint Louis. By the way I got bored of just making four a month so I will go back to making two a week (mostly). So here we go with Meet Me in Saint Louis.

We start in the life of a family in 1904 Saint Louis. The family's oldest daughter Rose (Lucille Bremer) is expecting a long distance call from a man she had been writing to and they expect him to propose to her. But so that they wont interrupt, they plan to have dinner one hour earlier. Meanwhile the second oldest daughter of the family Esther (Judy Garland)  falls in love with her new neighbor John Truett (Tom Drake). She even sings a very good song about it. However the plans of having dinner an hour early are ruined when the father of the family Alonzo (Leon Ames) doesn't know about Rose's phone call and has dinner at the normal time. But it doesn't matter because it turns out the man calling doesn't propose to her and it was a waste of time and money. A few nights later there is a party and John Truett is invited. So they have an amazing party but it wakes up the two youngest daughters Tootie (Margret O,Brien) and Agnes (Joan Carroll). So the only way to put them to sleep is singing a musical number. After the party Esther asks if John can help her turn off the lights in the house. He says yes and they sing a musical number. The next day Esther rides the trolley to where the fair is being constructed and sings the famous "Trolley Song".

We cut to a few months later where it is Halloween. Except instead of getting free candy they go around stealing furniture and throwing flour at people. It is Tootie's first Halloween and she wants to throw flour at a man who she thinks kills cats. She throws flour at him and is declared "The Most Horrible". Later that night Tootie comes home but she is injured and she claims that John hit her. So Esther does what any sensible person would and goes to beat up John. Because you know, you would listen to a little girl who builds a cemetery for her dolls. When Esther gets home it turns out that she was only telling part of the truth. Agnes and Tootie stuffed an old dress with cotton so that it would look like a person and they would put it on the trolley track so that the engineer would put on the breaks and make the trolley crash (that is so messed up...). So Esther yells at Tootie but they make up. She also apologies to John for biting him. John accepts the apology. Meanwhile Alonzo gets home and tells the family that they are moving to New York because he got a good deal for a job there. The family is rather upset by this news. Alonzo is angry because he is trying to help them. So they cheer up by singing a song. So they all come to an agreement.

We cut to a few months later where it is Christmas and the family is planning to leave after new years. There is a Christmas dance and Esther is going with John. But John says his tuxedo is at the dry cleaner and it closed early. Esther is upset and goes to her room. Esther ends up going to the dance with her grandfather (Harry Devenport). But grandpa manages to sneak John in. After they dance John proposes to Esther but since she is moving Esther doesn't know how to feel. But John says he will move there with her. When Esther gets home Tootie is still up waiting for Santa to come. Esther sing the famous song "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas". After the song ends Tootie gets upset and doesn't want to go to New York. She gets put back to sleep but this make Alonzo realize that he should stay in Saint Louis. Then we cut to a few months later where the family is enjoying the St Louis Worlds Fair. The End.

Meet Me In Saint Louis is a classic movie. The songs are very good and well performed. The romance between Esther and John feels real. It is also really funny every character has at least one funny line. The funniest characters are Tootie and Grandpa. The only problem I have is that it did feel a bit cliched at times and I think Esther fell in love way too fast. But this is still a very good very classic movie that you should watch. The Easter Parade

I promised it and here it is, my review of The Easter Parade. So let's get down to business. This is The Easter Parade. Oh, and by the way, I didn't have enough time to make a cartoon.










We start in the year 1912 where we see a Broadway performer named Don Hewes (Fred Astaire) doing some easter shopping. After an awesome musical number, Don goes home to his dancing partner Nadine Hale (Ann Miller). But Nadine says that she is quitting his act because she got a better offer. So on hearing this news he does the first sensible thing anyone would do, go to a pub. At the pub he has a talk with the bartender Mike (Clinton Sundberg). Don tells him that he can train anyone to replace Nadine. So he asks one of the performers at the bar named Hannah Brown (Judy Garland) to come to his dance studio the next day. But in the morning Don is starting to think that he is in over his head.

Hannah and Don walk through The Easter Parade and discuss their act. After a few rehearsals they are ready for their first performance. It goes okay. That night Nadine, Don,  and Don's friend Johnny (Peter Lawford) go out for dinner. While having dinner Nadine complains that Don is just having Hannah mimic her. This gives Don an idea. The next day it rains like crazy and Hannah meets Johnny. Johnny falls in love with Hannah and they sing the song "A Fella With An Umbrella". When Hannah gets to rehearsal Don tells her just to be herself when performing. This goes well and everybody loves them. Eventually they audition for Ziegfeld Follies. But when Don finds out that Nadine is the main star he turns down the deal and tells Hannah that Nadine doesn't deserve to be in the same show as her. But when Don hears that the show was a big success he get's a bit upset. So he get's someone to build a show around them.

So it is the night of their big show. They perform some musical numbers and then their finale, the song "A Couple of Swells" (which is probably the funniest song in the movie). After the show they have dinner on the rooftop and it turns out that Nadine is performing. Nadine takes this chance to get Don away from Hannah. Which works, and Hannah gets upset and goes home. Don goes to Hannah's apartment and tells her that he will stay there all night...until he is kicked out by the house detective. The next day Hannah tells Johnny about the misunderstanding. Johnny tells Hannah to tell Don that she loves him. She does and Don loves her back and takes her to The Easter Parade. The End.

This is another great movie. Fred Astaire and Judy Garland are great singers and dancers. The Songs are very memorable. The costume design is very nice as well. The only problem I have is that the title is misleading. The movie has very little to do with Easter. But that isn't too big of a deal. Check this movie out some time, it's pretty good.

Rio Lobo

Hello, today I feel like reviewing a western. By the way before I start I want to tell you something weird  about this. On the DVD disk I rented, it says the rating is G, but right next to that is a stamp that says PG and the DVD cover also said PG. But when I was looking for the poster online it said for mature audiences. So really I have no idea what this movie is rated. But enough rambling time to start.

 The movie starts in The Civil War. We see a bunch of gold being transported by Lt. Ned Forsythe (Peter Jason) and some other soldiers to Col. Cord McNally (John Wayne). But the train is ambushed by Confederate Soldiers lead by Capt. Pierre Cordona (Jorge Rivero) and Sgt. Tuscarora Phillips (Christopher Mitchum). They set a trap involving grease, hornets, and rope. The Confederates steal the gold and go their separate ways. Cord chases after them and gets captured. Cord realizes that the reason the ambush was successful is because a traitor sold The Confederates the information. Pierre has a plan using Cord as bait but it back fires and ends up getting him and Tuscarora captured.

When the war is over Cord visits them as they are being released. Cord asks them who sold the information. They say they don't know the name so they describe them. One was a tall man with dark hair; the other is a smaller man with pale skin and white hair. Cord returns to his home in Blackthorne Texas. He talks to the sheriff Pat (Bill Williams). But then a woman named Shasta Delaney (Jennifer O,Niel) reports a murder in the town of Rio Lobo. But Pat says there is nothing he can do. Later several people from Rio Lobo com into town. The leader named Whitey Carter (Roger Donner) says that he wants to arrest Shasta. But Shasta says that he is the murderer. There is a shootout and Cord, Pierre, and Shasta defeat the gang. Pierre tells Cord that Whitey is one of the men that sold him the information. So Cord, Pierre, and Shasta set out to Rio Lobo. When they get there they stay with Pierre's friend Maria Carmen (Susana Dosamantes). Meanwhile the corrupt Sheriff Tom Hendricks (Mike Henry) and his right hand man Ketchup Ketcham (Victor French) arrest Tuscarora for no reason and are going to kill him if he doesn't give him the deed to his father's farm. So Cord comes up with a plan.

Cord get's help from Maria,s friend Amelina (Sherry Lansing) and Tuscarora's father Phillips (Jack Elam). They make it out to Phillips' ranch and they hatch a plan. They hold Ketchup Ketcham hostage so they can trade him for Tuscarora. They capture Ketchup Ketcham who Pierre recognizes as the other man who sold him the information. The next day after holding Ketcham hostage in the jail,they decide to trade Tuscarora and Ketcham. But when Sheriff Hendricks finds out that Ketchup Ketcham already singed all the deeds, Hendricks double crosses him. Amelina defeats Hendricks with the help of Cord. The End.

This movie is pretty good. The train robbery at the beginning is cool and the shootouts are fun to watch. Also the character of Phillips is really funny. But when it's not exciting or funny it does get really boring. I also feel that some of the characters like Amelina are underdeveloped. Overall it's not John Wayne or Howard Hawks best film but it is still very enjoyable.

The Parent Trap (1998)

It is March so I decided to make March Remake Month. It is where all March I review remakes. So lets start with a remake to The Parent Trap. It is based on the book, Lottie and Lisa by Erich Kästner. Let us begin.









We start at a summer camp where a girl named Hallie Parker (Lindsay Lohan)  arrives. She goes to her cabin. Meanwhile another girl named Annie James (also Lindsay Lohan) arrives at camp. Later they both fight each other in fencing. Annie beats Hallie. When they remove their fencing masks they realize that they both look alike. They get angry at each other and start playing pranks on each other. One of the pranks dumps paint on the camp leader and the camp leader sends both the girls to live in the same cabin. Eventually they realize that they have a lot in common. Besides the fact that they look the same they both like Oreos covered in peanut butter, and their parents are divorced. But then they realize that Hallie has a picture of Annie's mother and that Annie has a picture of Hallie's father which means...They are twins *dramatic music*. So they decide to switch places so that Annie can meet her father and Hallie can meet her Mother.

They spend time getting to know the other. When camp is over Annie goes to California as Hallie to meet her father and Hallie goes to London as Annie to meet her mother. In London Hallie meets her mom named Elizabeth (Natasha Richardson) and her grandfather (Ronnie Steven) and her butler Martin (Simon Kunz). Meanwhile Annie goes to California as Hallie and meets her father, Nick (Dennis Quaid), her house keeper Chessy (Lisa Ann Walter) and Nick's fiancée Meredith Blake (Elaine Hendrix) who only loves Nick for his money. Annie gets worried about Meredith so she gives Hallie a phone call about it. So Hallie tells her mother that she is really Hallie and Annie tells Chessy that she is Annie. So Hallie brings her mother to California to stop the engagement. At a hotel in San Fransisco the girls reveal to their father that they switched. That night just like in the original the girls recreate their parents first date, only this time instead of a restaurant  the parents meet on a cruise. So with the help of Grandpa, the girls rented a yacht and the parents have dinner on it.

But Hallie and Annie are being switched back. So they keep switching personalities back and fourth  and it confuses their parents. So they make a deal to all go on a camping trip. But Meredith is unhappy about it so Elizabeth says that she can come along instead of her. The girls take advantage of Meredith being there and start playing pranks on her like putting a lizard in her hair and giving her bug spray that attracts bugs. Eventually they put her air-mattress in the lake...with her on it. OK that is kind of messed up. Can't they just draw a mustache on her face and cover her feet in honey? So Meredith says the engagement is off and leaves. So they go home and Nick and Elizabeth decide that they are in love. But Hallie and Annie still have to go home with the right parents. So Annie goes back to London but Hallie and Nick take a faster flight to London and meet them there so they decide that they can't live without each other and come back together again. The End.

I like this movie. Lindsay Lohan gives a good preference as both the girls and it has a good supporting cast. You really feel for the girls when they see their Mother/Father for the first time. The only problem is that Meredith is sort of a cliched type of character. You know, the stick in the mud that never gets the joke. Other than that I like the movie a lot.

Changes from original: The plot is pretty much the same, the only real difference is the ending. The characters are the same as well but there are some changes and new things added. Let me list them: All the characters' names are changed. Annie lives in London instead of Boston, and Nick now owns a vineyard. The only major update is the special effects. I was expecting them to make the character of the fiancée less cliched or cut her out entirely. That's it for this section.

Which is better: They are both about the same. Most of the changes from the original version are pretty minor. They both have a great lead actress and great supporting cast. Overall it just comes down to which one you personally like better. As for me I think it's a tie.

Singin' in the Rain

Now it is time for a review of a classic movie. I just can't wait to start. So why am I waiting? Time to start.

The movie starts in the 1920s with Two Hollywood movie stars named Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) and Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen) and there friend Cosmo Brown (Donald O'Connor) going to see there latest silent film The Royal Rascal. After the film on the way to a party Don is attacked by his fans. So he jumps into a car owned by a lady named Kathy Selden (Debbie Reynolds). Kathy drops Don off at the party. At the party a new invention is revealed it is...a movie with talking in it. After the demonstration is done they have some cake but a dancer pops out of the cake and other entertainers come in as well. One of them is Kathy. After the performance is done Kathy gets angry at Don and throws a pie at him. But it hits Lina instead. Three weeks later Don has been searching for Kathy with no success. Cosmo sings the song "Make em Laugh" and then Don and Lina start making a new movie but the head of the studio announces that he wants it to be a talking picture. But just one problem; Lina has a really squeaky voice.


To celebrate Talking pictures they sing the song "Beautiful Girls". Now the Song itself is pretty good but halfway through it turns into a fashion show for some reason. Anyway one of the background dancers in "Beautiful Girls" turns out to be Kathy. So Don tells Kathy that he is in love with her and they sing a song about it. The next day Don and Cosmo are at a speech therapist being given impossible tongue twisters. Then they randomly sing the song "Moses Supposes". After that...insanely fun musical number...the filming of the talking picture starts. But they are having some trouble finding how to use the microphone efficiently. After the filming at the premier the talking picture is a disaster because the audio is out of sync with the movie. That night Cosmo, Don and Kathy come up with a plan to fix the movie before it is shown at other theaters. They will make it a musical. To celebrate they sing the song "Good morning" but there is still the issue of Linas squeaky voice. So they come up with the idea of having Kathy dubbing over Lina. So Don goes home and on the way sings "Singin' in the Rain". This song is amazing not only are the dance moves impressive but just imagine how hard it is to do a song and dance number soaking wet in fake rain.

They dub over Lina but she finds out and is really angry. It also doesn't help that they are removing her name from the credits and giving Kathy all the credit. So Lina threatens to sue the company if they make her go as uncredited. The head of the company agrees to give her all the credit. The premier of the fixed version of the movie  is a success. The audience even asks Lina to preform "Singin' in the Rain". So they have Lina lip sync and Kathy sing behind the certain. But Don and Cosmo reveal  that Kathy is the real singer and make her famous. Don and Kathy get married and live happily ever after. The End...wait, what exactly happened to Lina? Did she vanish into obscurity? Did she get someone else to dub her over? What happened? Oh whatever. The End.

This is a great movie. The dancing and songs are great. It has really great costume design as well. It also has a really good sense of comedy. The Only problem I could find is that a lot of the musical numbers come out of nowhere. This is a very classic movie you should see it if you haven't. I will be reviewing The Dark Crystal next.
