Jumanji

Well I'm back and I'm ready to review another movie. It looks like Jumanji is the movie for today. It's based on a book by Chris Van Allsburg of the same name. Interesting fact, this was technically my first review. I wrote a review of this movie for my school paper that was never published (the paper not the review). But that's out of the way, let's start my review of Jumanji.

We start in 1869 where two boys named Caleb (Cyrus Thiedeke) and Benjamin (Brandon Orbray) are burying a mysterious box and hoping no one will ever find it again. Years later, in 1969, a little boy named Allan Parish (Adam Hann-Byrd) is being bullied by some kids and he hides in his fathers (Johnathan Hyde) shoe factory. Allan accidentally gets his friend Carl (David Alan Grier) fired but Allan doesn't do anything about it. Allan hears strange drumming coming from a construction site and he finds the chest that was buried at the beginning and he opens the chest to find a board game called Jumanji. He goes home where his father says he is sending him to boarding school. His parents leave to go to an important event and Allan takes this chance to run away, but before he can leave his friend Sarah (Laura Bell Bundy) comes over and Allan convinces her to play Jumanji with him. Sarah rolls the dice and they hear weird sounds coming from the chimney. Then, Allan rolls and he gets sucked into the game until someone rolls a 5 or 8. But before Sarah can roll, a bunch of bats chase her away. Twenty six years later a woman named Nora (Bebe Neuwirth) moves into Allan's old house. Nora is taking care of her nephew Peter (Bradley Pierce) and niece Judy (Kristen Dunst) who recently lost their parents in a car crash.

Nora goes to work while Judy and Peter go to school but before going to school they hear drumming and find Jumanji, they decide to play too. They play and release weird bugs, some monkeys, and a lion. When the lion is released Peter rolls a 5 which releases a grown up Allan Parish (Robin Williams). After trapping the lion in the bedroom Allan goes to find his parents but finds out that the  factory closed after his disappearance and his parents are dead. Judy and Peter decide to finish the game with the help of Allan. But in order to complete the game they need Sarah, so they find the grown up Sarah (Bonnie Hunt) and convince (force) her to help them finish the game. They release a bunch of horrors of the jungle on the world including a hunter named Van Pelt (Also Johnathan Hyde) who wants to kill Allan and they release a stampede where a bird in the stampede steals the board game. They recover the board game, however, they get separated when an older Carl arrests Allan. Meanwhile Van Pelt plans to lure Allan to a store and kill him.

***SPOILER ALERT STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE END RUINED***

They manage to temporarily stop Van Pelt by knocking over a bunch of paint cans on top of him. They make it back to the house and the dice roll causes the house to flood. Nora and Carl try to get inside but only end up draining out all the water. The next several rolls release quicksand, spiders, and a horrible earthquake. Van Pelt catches up to them and tries to kill Allan. But Allan rolls his dice just in time and wins the game. This reverses all of the effects of the game and Allan and Sarah are transported back to 1969 where they throw the game in the river. Not a good strategy to get rid of it I would have burned it. We then cut to 1995 again where we see that Sarah and Allan got married and warn Judy and Peter's parents to not go on the vacation where they died. The End.

***SPOILERS OVER KEEP READING***

Jumanji is a great movie. The special effects are pretty good for the time. Robin Williams gives a great and funny performance as Allan. It manages to capture the chaos of a bunch of wild animals rampaging through a New England town. I think Sarah is a very funny character in this because when she is first introduced she thinks she is imagining everything. If there is something I didn't like, it's that some of the logic in this film doesn't make much sense. But I do recommend Jumanji as a fun family movie. Also on an slightly unrelated note, wouldn't it be cool if there was a real Jumanji board game....on second thought forget I said that. See you next time.

The Land Before Time

What's more adorable than baby dinosaurs? A lot of things but for the purposes of this review let's say they're the most adorable thing ever. So since dinosaurs are  so cute I will review The Land Before Time. It is directed by the man who brought you The Secret of NIMH, seeing as I liked that movie this should be good. So let's get started with The Land Before Time.

The movie starts with a narrator (Pat Hingle) telling us that a lot of dinosaurs are migrating to somewhere called the great valley to find more food. There's a family of Brontosauruses (that's what you call them right?), a mother (Helen Shaver), two grandparents, and a little kid dinosaur named Littlefoot (Gabriel Damon). But one day there is a horrible earthquake and if things can't get worse a T-Rex named Sharptooth (Frank Welker) decides to attack everyone. Littlefoot's mother tries to defend Littlefoot but Sharptooth kills Littlefoot's mother. Fortunately the earthquake makes Sharptooth fall into a giant pit. But Littlefoot's mother tells Littlefoot to find the great valley. So he walks to the great valley. On his way he runs into a Triceratops named Cera (Candace Hutson). Little foot asks Cera if she wants to come with him but Cera says she can take care of herself and goes away.

Littlefoot keeps walking and runs into a duck billed dino (I don't know the scientific name) named Ducky (Judith Barsi), a Pterodactyl who can't fly named Petrie (Will Ryan), and a baby Stegosaurus named Spike (also Frank Welker). Our dinosaur friends rest for the night. But before they rest too much Cera runs up to them and tells them that Sharptooth is still alive. Littlefoot doesn't believe Cera so they keep moving. But it turns out Cera was right and Sharptooth followed them so they have to make a run for it. They narrowly escape Sharptooth and they find what looks like the great valley. Sadly it isn't because as soon as they get there a bunch of other dinosaurs come in and eat all the food. Our heroes grab what is left of the food an keep going.

***SPOILER ALERT STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE END RUINED***

They keep walking to the great valley but Cera decides to turn back and she also convinces Spike, Ducky, and Petrie. So Littlefoot keeps going by himself. Cera and the other dinosaurs get turned back by Sharptooth. Littlefoot comes up with a plan to stop Sharptooth. They decide to drop a rock on his head while he is in the water because Sharptooth can't swim and they will use Ducky as bait. The plan ends up working and they make it to the great valley where Littlefoot's grandparents are and all the dinosaurs are reunited with their family. The End. Well almost the end because there are 13 sequels, a few video games, some books, and a TV show. I hate it when this happens to a good movie.

***SPOILERS OVER KEEP READING***

The Land before time is a very good movie. The animation is very beautiful and the characters are very funny and have a lot of development. Sharptooth is actually a very intimidating villain. As I said in the beginning the dinosaurs are very adorable, especially Ducky and Petrie. I do admit there are a few historical inaccuracies but that can be overlooked. Also some people may find Cera annoying in some scenes but I tend to overlook that. Oh and if you haven't seen this movie and have only seen the sequels/clips of the sequels this movie is not a musical. Overall the land before time is one of my personal favorite movies and you should definitely watch it. See you next time where I answer the age old riddle "Why is stop motion so great".

The NeverEnding Story

Hooray another classic fantasy kids movie from the 80's. The movie itself is based on a book by Micheal Ende. I never read the book but it was reported that he did not like the movie and he even had his name removed from the credits. But enough with that. Let's start.

We meet a boy named Bastian (Barret Oliver) whose father wants him to be more rooted in reality and for him to keep his head out of the clouds. A group of bullies chases Bastian into a book store where he sees a man named Mr. Coreander. Bastian becomes fascinated with the book he is reading called The NeverEnding Story. So when Mr. Coreander turns his back he steals it. But Mr. Coreandr doesn't call the cops because Bastian left a letter saying he would return it. Bastian gets to school but he is late and it is the day of a big test, so he hides in the attic and decides to read the book. We open with a camp of two people named Night Hob (Tilo Pruckner) and Teeny Weeny (Deep Roy). They get interrupted by a creature known as The Rockbiter (Alan Oppenheimer). The Rockbiter says a thing called The Nothing is destroying the land so he is going to The Ivory Tower to see if The Childlike Empress (Tami Stronach) can help. They make it to The Ivory Tower where the Empress lives. But the Empress's cone-headed servant tells everyone that the Empress is gravely sick and someone needs to find a cure. The prophesy says that a warrior named Atreyu (Noah Hathaway) must find a wise man named Morla in the swamp of sadness and ask them to find a cure.

Atreyu goes on his way to find Morla. But when he goes into the swamp of sadness his horse Artax starts to sink into it. Artax drowns in the swamp but Atreyu makes it to Morla who is a giant turtle. However Morla is not interested in saving the Empress or stopping the Nothing. So she just tells Atreyu that he must pass three trials to find an oracle that will tell him how to cure the Childlike Empress and stop the Nothing. But without Artax, he starts sinking in the Swamp of Sadness. Luckily something saves Atreyu. Atreyu wakes up and it turns out that what saved him was a luck dragon named Falkor (also Alan Oppenheimer) who took him to where the three trials are. He also meets a gnome named Engywook (Sydney Bromley) who tells Atreyu that only confident people can pass the first trial. So Atreyu walks between two statues and he tries to stay confident, but the statues zap him with lasers. Atreyu gets out of the way and continues to the next trial. The next trial is a mirror that shows whoever looks into it their true self.  When Atreyu looks into it he sees Bastian. This of course freaks Bastian out but he decides to keep reading. He finds the oracle and the oracle says that a human child must name The Childlike Empress.

***SPOILER ALERT STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE END RUINED***

Falkor picks up Atreyu and tries to take him out of Fantasia to find a human child. But the Nothing comes and Atreyu falls off Falkor. Atryu finds a room foretelling his journey. He runs into a creature called the G'mork (also Alan Oppenheimer) who tells Atreyu that the nothing can't be stopped because The Nothing is pure dying imagination. The nothing finally catches up with him, and Atreyu finds himself riding on Falkor's back through what is left of Fantasia. They find the ruins of the Ivory Tower where the Childlike Empress tells Atreyu that the child that needs to name her is Bastian. So Bastian runs out to a window where he shouts the Empress's name "MOOSINKNED!". No he actually said Moonchild if you listen closely or actually read the book or just do what I did and look it up on the internet. That is what he can be heard shouting. So the world of Fantasia is saved and Bastian now has the power to wish for whatever he wants. So first he wishes that the Nothing never happened. Then he wishes that he could get revenge on some bullies at school by chasing them with Falkor. The Beginning.

***SPOILERS OVER KEEP READING***

The NeverEnding Story in my opinion is one of the best fantasy movies ever. It has a complex story and some real dilemmas and drama. Another thing I like about it is the effects. I think it is sort of like if the movie Labyrinth did less of the Muppet look and tried to look a bit more realistic. Not too realistic like in Lord of the Rings, but just right in between. I think the best characters in this film are Falkor and The Rockbiter. Oddly enough The Rockbiter actually has very little screen time, just a scene at the beginning and a scene at the end. Just goes to show you, characters don't have to be there long to be memorable or leave an impact. However I do think that Noah Hathaway does scream his lines a bit too much. So in all I think that The NeverEnding Story is another fantasy movie that you should check out. And have you heard the theme song, it is awesome. See you later.

Groundhog Day

Well I made it seem like I would review a Planet of the Apes sequel in the last review but I am not because....aliens stole my only copy of Beneath the Planet of the Apes. So until those aliens come back with my copy, I will review Groundhog Day...even though I should have reviewed this in February. But whatever, let's go.

We open with a weather man named Phil Conners (Bill Murray) finishing a report. Then he heads on his way to the town of Punxsutawney to report on the Groundhog Day celebrations with his producer Rita (Andie MacDowell) and his camera man Larry (Chris Elliot). He spends the night in a Bed and Breakfast and he wakes up the next day for the ground hog report. On the way he is stopped by his annoying friend from high school Ned Ryerson (Stephen Tobolowsky) who wants Phil to buy some insurance. When Phil gets to the festivities, he gives a sarcastic report and decides he wants to get out of town as soon as possible. But a blizzard keeps him from leaving town and he has to spend another miserable day in town...OR DOES HE?! When he wakes up it is still February second and every thing happens like yesterday. He meets Ned, he does the report, and the blizzard keeps him in town. When he wakes up the next day it is still Groundhog Day. He tries to tell Rita and Larry, but they just brush it off as him being weird.

He decides to find ways to pass the time like robbing some incompetent bank guards, dressing like Clint Eastwood, and pretending to know random strangers. Eventually he decides he loves Rita and he spends most of the days memorizing all of her favorite things--that sounds charmingly creepy. But all of his attempts fail and he just gives up on that. He comes to the conclusion that Punxsatawney Phil is the reason all this is happening, so he kidnaps him and drives him away as he is chased by cops, Larry, and Rita. However Phil drives off the edge of a cliff and wakes up on the same day once again. After failing to kill himself several times he manages to convince Rita that he is stuck in the same day. So she tries to stay up all night with him but the same thing happens again and he wakes up on Ground hog day.

***SPOILER ALERT STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE END RUINED***

After this occurrence he decides to make himself  a better person. Phil decides to put some actual effort into his report, he is nice to Ned, and he also decides to take piano lessons as a hobby. He also takes his time to memorize every bad thing that will happen in town and stopping it from happening. It's kind of like if Superman could see into the future. Once he masters piano playing he performs at a party and Rita decides to go on a date with Phil. On the date Phil builds Rita an ice sculpture of herself. The next day...IT'S FEBUARY 3RD! To end it all Phil tells Rita he wants to live in Punxsatawney...even though he was trapped their for about 50 years oh whatever. The End.

***SPOILERS OVER KEEP READING***

Groundhog Day is an really good movie. Not only is it really really funny but the concept of the movie is quite original and it is a romantic comedy yet it doesn't use any of those rom-com cliches you have seen 1,00000 times. One of the only things I didn't like is that Phil seems  to be a bit of a jerk at first but as the movie goes on Bill Murray plays him as more of a likable jerk. But I would recommend this movie to watch on Groundhog Day or whenever I guess. I will let you know when I find those aliens.

Planet of the Apes

Well seeing as I just reviewed a science fiction movie I might as well review another. This is my review of Planet of the Apes. I forgot today was Friday (again) so there won't be a cartoon today, sorry. It i s based on a book of the same name by Pierre Boulle. I can't say anything about the book as I haven't read it. But enough monkey business; let's start the review....did I just say "enough monkey business"?

We open in space where we see an astronaut named Taylor (Charton Heston) who is going into some weird preserving pod to sleep. Later the ship crashes on an unknown planet and they find out that the pods kept Taylor and the other astronauts Landon (Robert Gunner) and Dodge (Jeff Burton) alive for thousands of years. But there was an air leak in one of the pods that killed an astronaut named Stewart (Dianne Stanley). The ship starts to sink and they escape before its too late. So they have no idea what planet they are on only that they are in a desert on another planet and they are about 20,000 years into the future. They find a field full of people but they seem to be mute and are as intelligent as stone aged humans. But then people chase them and the other people through the field. The people chasing them are actually apes. The apes shoot Dodge, and Landon is captured along with Taylor but Taylor's throat is damaged and he is unable to talk.

The Ape Counsel
Taylor is being held at a research center where an ape scientist named Dr. Zira (Kim Hunter) names Taylor Bright Eyes and notices how he is trying to talk to her. Zira tries to show it to a higher ranking scientist named Dr. Zaius but Zaius dismisses Taylor saying that he is merely copying Zira. A female human named Nova (Linda Harrison) is transferred to Taylor's cage which gives him someone to spend time with other than gorillas who spray him with hoses. One day Taylor steals Ziras note pad and writes down "My name is Taylor".  Zira takes him to her house and shows him to her fiance Cornelius (Roddy McDowall). Taylor tells them about how he came from another planet and Cornelius says that he could be the missing link between apes and humans. Dr. Zaius finds out about Taylor and ups security around Taylor. One day Taylor decides to escape but is captured, and he regains his ability to talk which just makes the apes more suspicious. Taylor is put on trial with Zira and Cornelius defending him and Zaius and the ape council wanting to punish him. But the ape counsel tampers with the evidence and makes some stuff up to make Taylor lose. So Taylor is still being held at the research center.

***SPOILER ALERT STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE END RUINED***

Zira's nephew Lucius (Lou Wagner) helps Taylor and Nova break out and make it to Zira and Cornelius. They flee to where Cornelius was doing research on humans to prove to Dr. Zaius that humans should be treated with respect. But a group of apes lead by Zaius attacks them and Taylor convinces Zaius to come with him to the cave to find out the truth. They find the remains of a human house which of course enrages Zaius but before Zaius says anything his men attack Lucius but Taylor and his group take Zaius hostage. Taylor tells Lucius to tell Zaius' men to give him a horse and enough food and water for him and Nova.  So Zaius gives him what he wants but not before warning him that he may not like what he finds. So Taylor and Nova ride away and days later they find out the truth. They find the remains of the Statue of Liberty which means that he was on earth the whole time and that the apes took it over. Now I do have to admit that that was probably the best twist ending ever. Too bad that every TV show, movie, and comic gives it away....oh well. The End.

****SPOILERS OVER KEEP READING***

Planet of the Apes is one of the best sci fi movies ever. Taylor is a very smart and likable hero and the story is very original. Dr. Zaius is also a one of the best sci fi villains ever. I also like the make up effects for the apes they are very convincing most of the time. But like I said most of the time sometimes the lip movements don't match up. But honestly that is really the only problem I can think of. So this is a great stand alone sci fi movie and I hope you....whats that Waylon...they made sequels.....oh no.

The Wizard of Oz

Guess what I just had my 13th birthday. So to celebrate I will review a classic fantasy movie. The Wizard of Oz. HOORAY! It is based on a book of the same name by L. Frank Baum. Oh, and if my cartoons look different it's because I got a new set of pastels for by birthday. So here we go with The Wizard of Oz.

We open on a farm in Kansas where a little girl named Dorothy (Judy Garland) lives. She lives there with her Auntie Em (Clara Blandick) and Uncle Henry (Charley Grapewin) and three farmhands Hunk (Ray Bolger), Hickory (Jack Haley), and Zeke (Bert Lahr). Dorothy wishes she had more in life then living on a farm so she sings her song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". But a woman named Miss. Gulch (Margaret Hamilton) wants to take Dorothy's dog Toto (Terry) away because he bit her leg. But after she takes him away Toto escapes from Miss. Gulch and Dorothy and Toto decide to run away together. They come a across a man named Professor Marvel (Frank Morgan) who claims he can see the past present and future. After  stealing a picture of the farm when Dorothy isn't looking he tells her that Auntie Em is very upset and sick. So this makes Dorothy go home but a horrible tornado is coming and she can't get into the storm cellar because it's locked and the family can't hear her. So she hides in her bedroom but gets hit in the head with a window she is out cold. When she wakes up she is in the tornado.

Fortunately the house lands in a colorful land. She is greeted by a woman who says she is Glenda the Good Witch (Billie Burke).  She tells Dorothy that her house landed on The Wicked Witch of the East and saved the town of Munchkin Land. So all the Munchkins come out to sing her a song. But they are interrupted by The Wicked Witch of the West (also Margret Hamilton) and she threatens Dorothy but she can't hurt her because she has The Witch of the East's Ruby Slippers. So The Witch leaves. Glenda says the only way to get home is to follow The Yellow Brick Road to meet The Wizard of Oz to send her home. She comes to a fork in the road and doesn't know which way to go. But she sees a talking Scarecrow (also Ray Bolger) who claims to have no brains just straw. So Dorothy tells the Scarecrow that he can go with her to The Wizard to ask for a Brian. After walking awhile they come across a rusted Tin Man (also Jack Haley); after using an oil can, the Tin Man says he doesn't have heart. So Dorothy asks him to come along to meet the Wizard. They are going through a dark forest when they meet a Lion (also Bert Lahr). But it turns out he is a coward so he comes with them to The Wizard to get courage. So after Glenda helps them through a magical poppy field, they make it to the Emerald City. They sing a song and get ready to go to the Wizard. When they go in they see The Wizard of Oz (also Frank Morgan) who is a giant floating head. He won't grant their wishes unless they give him The Wicked Witch's broomstick. So our heroes go to The Witch's Castle.

***SPOILER ALERT STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE END RUINED***

The Wicked Witch sends her flying monkeys to stop them. They kidnap Dorothy and leave. The Lion, Tin Man, and Scarecrow disguise as guards (which are apparently called Winkies) and break into the castle. They save Dorothy, but the witch chases after them. She corners them and decides to kill the Scarecrow by setting him on fire. But Dorothy  throws a bucket of water at The Wicked Witch and the water melts her. So they return to The Wizard of Oz with the broomstick, but The Wizard refuses to grant them their wishes because it turns out he is a fake. He says he was just a circus performer, but one day a hot air balloon that was part of the act got swept away in a tornado and he ended up there. So now that he is revealed, he still grants their wishes. The Scarecrow gets a diploma, the Tin Man gets a clock shaped like a heart, and the Cowardly Lion gets a medal. Finally he travels with Dorothy home in his hot air balloon. But it accidentally leaves without her. But luckily Glenda comes in and tells her that all she has to do is tap her heels together and say "There're's no Place Like Home". She does this and ends up home in Kansas and everyone says it was a dream. But Dorothy says it wasn't a dream she says that the farm hands were there and so was that fortune teller and so was Miss. Gulch; they where all there. The End. Well not so much "The End" but more like to be continued in the countless remakes, spin offs, sequels, and TV shows.

***SPOILERS OVER KEEP READING***

The Wizard of Oz is a fantastic classic movie. Other than the occasional obvious backdrop, the costumes and sets hold up very well even today. I really can't find many or even any bad songs. True some things don't make sense like why doesn't Glenda just come along with them since it is shown that she has magical powers. But the movie makes up for that because you really feel for the characters and want them to succeed. So if you haven't seen this movie (which I doubt) (no offense to those of you who haven't seen it) check it out; it still holds up really really well. See you next time.

Meet Me in Saint Louis

It has been a while since I have reviewed a  musical (I think). So here is a  very good very classic musical movie, Meet Me in Saint Louis. By the way I got bored of just making four a month so I will go back to making two a week (mostly). So here we go with Meet Me in Saint Louis.

We start in the life of a family in 1904 Saint Louis. The family's oldest daughter Rose (Lucille Bremer) is expecting a long distance call from a man she had been writing to and they expect him to propose to her. But so that they wont interrupt, they plan to have dinner one hour earlier. Meanwhile the second oldest daughter of the family Esther (Judy Garland)  falls in love with her new neighbor John Truett (Tom Drake). She even sings a very good song about it. However the plans of having dinner an hour early are ruined when the father of the family Alonzo (Leon Ames) doesn't know about Rose's phone call and has dinner at the normal time. But it doesn't matter because it turns out the man calling doesn't propose to her and it was a waste of time and money. A few nights later there is a party and John Truett is invited. So they have an amazing party but it wakes up the two youngest daughters Tootie (Margret O,Brien) and Agnes (Joan Carroll). So the only way to put them to sleep is singing a musical number. After the party Esther asks if John can help her turn off the lights in the house. He says yes and they sing a musical number. The next day Esther rides the trolley to where the fair is being constructed and sings the famous "Trolley Song".

We cut to a few months later where it is Halloween. Except instead of getting free candy they go around stealing furniture and throwing flour at people. It is Tootie's first Halloween and she wants to throw flour at a man who she thinks kills cats. She throws flour at him and is declared "The Most Horrible". Later that night Tootie comes home but she is injured and she claims that John hit her. So Esther does what any sensible person would and goes to beat up John. Because you know, you would listen to a little girl who builds a cemetery for her dolls. When Esther gets home it turns out that she was only telling part of the truth. Agnes and Tootie stuffed an old dress with cotton so that it would look like a person and they would put it on the trolley track so that the engineer would put on the breaks and make the trolley crash (that is so messed up...). So Esther yells at Tootie but they make up. She also apologies to John for biting him. John accepts the apology. Meanwhile Alonzo gets home and tells the family that they are moving to New York because he got a good deal for a job there. The family is rather upset by this news. Alonzo is angry because he is trying to help them. So they cheer up by singing a song. So they all come to an agreement.

***SPOILER ALERT STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE END RUINED***

We cut to a few months later where it is Christmas and the family is planning to leave after new years. There is a Christmas dance and Esther is going with John. But John says his tuxedo is at the dry cleaner and it closed early. Esther is upset and goes to her room. Esther ends up going to the dance with her grandfather (Harry Devenport). But grandpa manages to sneak John in. After they dance John proposes to Esther but since she is moving Esther doesn't know how to feel. But John says he will move there with her. When Esther gets home Tootie is still up waiting for Santa to come. Esther sing the famous song "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas". After the song ends Tootie gets upset and doesn't want to go to New York. She gets put back to sleep but this make Alonzo realize that he should stay in Saint Louis. Then we cut to a few months later where the family is enjoying the St Louis Worlds Fair. The End.

***SPOILERS OVER KEEP READING***

Meet Me In Saint Louis is a classic movie. The songs are very good and well performed. The romance between Esther and John feels real. It is also really funny every character has at least one funny line. The funniest characters are Tootie and Grandpa. The only problem I have is that it did feel a bit cliched at times and I think Esther fell in love way too fast. But this is still a very good very classic movie that you should watch. See you next time.

Top Ten Family Films of All Time

Hi I am making another countdown. I am counting down the best family movies ever. Even though I am a movie buff,  I haven't seen every movie ever. So, sorry if I leave any of your favorites out.

10 Willy Wonka/Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
It is a tie for the number ten spot between both the "Chocolate Factory Movies". I know a lot of people dislike the remake. But I think it is relatively good. Of course the original is a classic. Both Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp do a good job, but I do like Wilder's performance better. Either way, seeing either of these movies is worth it.

9 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
This is a story of a flying car. It is very funny and adventurous. My favorite scene is when a bunch of dogs ransack a candy factory (hopefully they didn't eat any chocolate). The only problem is that the actual adventure is just a fantasy, but it doesn't matter too much. This is a great movie.

8 The Muppet Movie
The Muppets are part of almost everyone's childhood and their first cinematic appearance is their best. The reason this is the best Muppet movie is because it has a lot of heart and a lot of great comedy. Also it has plenty of cameos from people like Steve Martin and Mel Brooks.

7 The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
This is the first movie I remember seeing. All the characters are funny and memorable. It also has a nice style of animation and plenty of fourth wall jokes involving the narrator. The backgrounds look like book illustrations (which is intentional). Winnie the Pooh is a classic character and I am glad he has good books and good  movies.

6 The Princess Bride
This is one of the great fantasy movies. It can be lite and funny or dark and scary. This movie has created some of the most memorable characters ever. This is one of those classics that almost everyone has seen. Nothing else to say except that it is a great movie.

 5 Fantastic Mr. Fox
Apparently there are a lot of good movies based on Roald Dahl books. This one is really exiting and funny. It has some amazing stop motion work. Plus excellent voice work from George Clooney, Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe and much more. It's no wonder it was nominated for an Oscar.

4 Swiss Family Robinson
This is a classic family style adventure (Why does that sound like a fast food commercial?). This is silly, scary, fun, and exiting and of course there are the really cool traps. The actors feel like a real family and not just people pretending to be a family. It is a great adventure. This movie is fabulous.

3 The Wizard of Oz
This is the classic we all know and love. With excellent songs, excellent acting, and excellent effects: all in all, this is an amazing movie. It's full of bright colours/colors (because this was one of the first colour/color films) which makes the experience even better. The Wizard of Oz is one of the greatest adventures into another wold ever.

2 Mary Poppins
This is a movie of almost everyone's childhood. Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke give great performances. It has some very good songs and the animated segment is impressive. Everything from the costume design to the acting is good, but there is one better movie...

    1 Up
This is the best of Pixar Animation Studios. It has wonderful animation and a good balance of drama and comedy. The best part is the opening, a montage of the life two people. You could just end the movie after the opening and the audience would be satisfied. That is why in my opinion this is the best family movie.

Well That was my countdown.  I hope you liked it. I was going to include The Goonies and Who Framed Roger Rabbit but everyone says that they aren't for kids so I didn't include them. This has been another countdown see you next time.
