A New Hope vs The Force Awakens

So there's a new Star Wars movie out. Well instead of reviewing it like I would normally I've decided to compare it to the original. Because it actually has some similarities. Sort of like when I compared Jurassic Park and Jurassic World. So without further ado here is A New Hope vs The Force Awakens. Also before I start I would to announce that this review has a lot spoilers in it. So if you've seen the movie or just don't care take a look. If you haven't seen the movie.... Sorry.

Protagonists: The main character in A New Hope is Luke Skywalker. He's a lot more whiny in the first movie than he is than he is in the sequels.  And that's really kind of distracting. The other main characters are Han Solo, Obi Wan Kenobi, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, R2D2, and C3PO. Han is my favourite character in the first movie. Probably due to how cool he plays it. Chebacca doesn't have any actual lines but he's somehow still pretty interesting. Obi Wan is basically every other old mentor character ever. Princess Leia is also a pretty strong character. R2D2 really doesn't have much personality do to only being able to talk through beeping noises. But they're harmless. C3PO is kind of annoying but it's not too noticeable. A lot of the characters from the first movie are in the Force Awakens. They mostly remain unchanged. Han is still overly confident, C3PO worries a lot and so on. The main characters introduced in this movie are Finn, Rey, BB8, and Poe. Finn and Rey are actually pretty likeable and have interesting characters with Finn being and ex-Stormtrooper and Rey being a down on her luck scavenger. BB8 is a droid and he doesn't talk. They're not interesting but harmless. Poe is kind of boring. He's just the generic good looking, talented, nice guy. But he's barely in the movie. There's actually a fake out in the beginning that I thought was pretty funny where they made you think he'd be the main character. Both the movies have a pretty solid cast. But due to Luke whining in the first half of the movie in the original I'll give the point to the Force Awakens.

Antagonists: The main antagonist in A New Hope is Darth Vader. He's a classic antagonist. He's threatening and an interesting character..... He's also Luke's father. It's not a spoiler everyone knows it! Anyway that about does it for the antagonists in the first movie. Emperor Palpatine wasn't introduced until the Empre Strikes back. Don't worry there are many more antagonists in the Force Awakens. First off is Kylo Ren, he's Han Solo's son (Spoiler) and actually a pretty good antagonist. Probably the only complaint I have is that without his helmet on he isn't very intimidating. The other antagonists are General Hux, Captain Phasma, and Supreme Leader Snoke. The only thing I remember about General Hux is that he speaks with a British accent. Not just any British accent an evil British accent.... Trust me there's a difference. The only things I remember about Captain Phasma is that she's a girl and wears a really shiny outfit. Snoke is sort of like..... Um.... He's not very interesting. But he may get more interesting in the next movie. But a New Hope has the  more interesting villain and the Force Awakens has the uninteresting villains weighing it down.

Special Effects: The original was made in the 70's. But surprisingly the effects hold up. A lot of the puppets and models are pretty good. Sometimes you get a really dated effect but for the most part it's pretty good. The second movie came out recently so the effects are of course improved. It integrates the CGI and practical effects like puppets really well. So yeah, I'm going to give the point to the Force Awakens.

Plot: Both these movies have similarities. It starts with a character hiding something inside a droid, a poor character on a desert planet finds the droid, and it ends with a giant evil base blowing up. The main difference is the pacing of the plots. The original movie has a much slower pace than the new one. On one hand a New Hope was better at explaining things but too much explaining started to get tedious at times. On the other hand if the plot moves too fast you might not be able to explain things. But personally I prefer the Force Awakens.

Conclusion: I think the Force Awakens is better. Being made now gives it better effects, and less dated acting. But a New Hope is of course still a classic and is the movie that started it all. But in the end I think the Force Awakens did a better job. I'm glad to have compared these movies and let me know what you think.

Jurassic Park vs Jurassic World

[ JURASSIC WORLD POSTER ]
Jurassic Park is a classic movie combining likeable characters good humor and suspenseful action. Then there was the sequel The Lost World the less said about this the better. Finally the sequel nobody asked for Jurassic Park III. But just this year a new movie under the title of Jurassic World was released. I will be comparing it to the original and seeing if it measures up. I will look at the characters, plot, setting, effects, and action Keep in mind there will be some spoilers for those of you who haven't seen either of these movies. Will it be as good as the original, or will it be just another failed sequel? Let's find out.

Main Characters
In the first movie the main characters were Dr. Grant, Dr. Sattler, Dr. Malcolm, John Hammond, and Hammond's grandchildren Lex and Tim. Grant and Sattler are probably the movies best characters and they have very good on screen chemistry. Jeff Goldblum's performance as Dr. Malcolm is just a bit too quirky and awkward for my taste. Hammond is good character but isn't very good at running the park...like at all. The kids are kind of just annoying especially Tim. In Jurassic World the main characters are two kids named Gray and Zach, their Aunt Claire who helps run the park, a worker at the park named Owen Grady, and the movies main villain Hoskins. The kids in this movie are less annoying but don't really do much Claire is possibly worse at running the park than John Hammond. Owen is probably the best character in the movie and he's played by Chris Pratt so that's pretty cool. Claire and Owen also have good on screen chemistry but not as good as Sattler and Grant. Hoskins is sort of just added on for a kind of forced animal rights message and honestly Dinosaurs are supposed to be the villains anyway. Onto the supporting characters.

Supporting Characters

The first movie has supporting characters like Gennaro the lawyer, Muldoon the Australian hunter guy, Ray Arnold the computer guy, Dennis the other computer guy, and Dr. Henry Wu the scientist. Honestly all of them are just there as Dino food except for Dr. Wu who is only there for a bit of brief exposition. Not much else to say about the first movie. Jurassic world has the parks owner Mr. Masrani, Lowery and Vivian the security people/comic relief, Owen's co-worker Barry, this British lady who is supposed to be looking after the kids, and the only member of the original cast, Dr. Wu. Again mostly just there as Dino food and comic relief. However Dr. Wu was a very minor character but for some reason they decided to bring him back as a villain, not to sure why, but he ends up stealing all the scenes he's in. Onto the Setting.

Setting
They are set in the same place but there are some major differences from Jurassic Park and Jurassic World. In Jurassic Park the park was more like a zoo where you got in a Jeep drove around and looked at dinosaurs. I also liked all the phony Jurassic Park merchandise. The early 90's technology did make the film look a bit dated and it isn't a small thing to over look. In Jurassic World it is more like a theme park with Dino rides for little kids, rafting down a river, a Sea World like water dinosaur show (with splash zone), and an enclosed area for flying Dinosaurs. It is actually very well created and I admired that aspect of the movie. Now let's see how the action measures up.

Action

In the first movie the action was slow and suspenseful in this the action face paced and panicky. For this one it's all a matter of preference but I personally prefer the action in the original myself. I guess it just is better at keeping you guessing. But the action in Jurassic World is actually really well shot. That's about it for the action. Now onto the Effects.

                                                                                     Effects

The effects in the first movie were of course ground breaking, now that it's 2015 the effects have gotten better. But in Jurassic world the effects are kind of all over the place sometimes it's convincing like with the hybrid Dinosaur and others not so much like with the fish Dinosaur. The original was more consistent with the quality of the CGI and combined it well with practical effects. Speaking of which the best effects in Jurassic world are probably the animatronics which I am glad they included. Well time to movie onto the final aspect, the plot.

                                                                                    Plot

The plot of the original is that after an employee of Jurassic Park is killed the park director John Hammond calls in some experts to evaluate the safety but a storm knocks out the power letting the dinosaurs loose. In Jurassic World the park is reopened and the park director Mr. Masrani wants new attraction so they do the only sane thing make a hybrid dinosaur  out of the DNA of other dinosaurs. The first movie is of course a classic but not perfect mostly due to Hammond's constant incompetent actions such as  letting all but three employees leave during a storm, not having stronger fences, and letting the one disgruntled employee be in charge of the power. Of course the plot to Jurassic World isn't without it's problems either. As I said Claire and Mr. Masrani are probably more incompetent than John Hammond by choosing to reopen it in the first place. Also my suspension of disbelief was being played with a bit too much and towards the end it got a bit ridiculous, and with not trying to give to much away the Hybrid Dino is defeated with a bit of a Deus Ex Machina (look it up if you don't know what it means). There are  also some references to the other movies some of which are clever others are a bit forced. Well I've finished comparing now for my final opinion.

Jurassic Park is definitely the better movie but Jurassic world is still worth seeing. Both these films have their strengths and weaknesses and I found myself being entertained by them. Jurassic world is probably the best of the sequels and I recommend seeing it on the big screen. I would also recommend re watching Jurassic Park as it is a good movie. So that was my comparation of both movies I hope you like it and feel free to state your opinion on which movie is better. See you all next time.

Conquest of the Planet of the Apes

Well recently I have been thinking of sequels to review and then I realized I haven't reviewed a Planet of the Apes movie in a while so let's see. Again as usual, when I review sequels there will be spoilers for the previous movies. So let's travel to the distant year of 1991 where I will review Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.

We open in the futuristic 1991 where we find that Armando (Ricardo Montalban) is taking Milo (Roddy McDowell) to the big city. We find out that in the 80's a plague wiped out all cats and dogs leaving no pets for humans. So they took in apes as pets, but soon realized how easy they are to train and slowly they ended up using them as waiters, librarians, barbers, and other jobs humans normally do. OK I know we just started but there are two plot holes in the movie already. One, why would they choose apes as pets? In the last movie the humans find out that apes will take over the world and even if they got rid of Corneilius and Zira, they said the apes took over the planet on their own. Secondly this should be really bad because humans would be losing jobs. In fact the movie points this one out when we see a group of people protesting the apes. Milo accidentally speaks but runs away and Armando goes after him. They catch up and Armando says he will explain what happened to the police and if he doesn't return by night fall, he should blend in with the other apes.

I don't remember reading this about 1991
Armando is held in custody so Milo hides with the other apes where he is taken to a training facility. At the training facility the apes are trained to do tasks such as pour a pitcher of water, clean, and cook. Now I will take another break to talk about yet another plot hole. Why would the government spend millions of dollars on training apes to do tasks that humans can easily do with out costing millions? That aside, Milo is bought by the governor Breck (Don Murray) and his assistant Mr. MacDonald (Hari Rohdes) where they choose the name Caesar for him (I guess I'll just call him Caesar from now on). Caesar is given a job in a government facility where he sorts files. Meanwhile Armando is being interrogated and they use a truth telling machine, but Armando tries to escape and ends up falling out of the window to his death. Caesar finds out about this and  decides to plan an ape uprising.

***SPOILER ALERT STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE END RUINED***

Caesar starts by getting the apes to mess up small tasks. Breck starts to realize what is going on so he decides to have the apes that messed up returned to the training facility including Caesar. But Caesar escapes from the police and frees all the othet apes. Breck orders all civilians to go indoors while the police deal with the apes. But the apes overwhelm the police and break into the government building and capture Breck and MacDonald. Now this is where I assumed the movie was over the apes take over the city and plan to take over the world, but it's not. The last several minuets of the film are Caesar giving this long speech telling MacDonald how the apes will take over the world. Then you think it is over but then he changes his mind and has another speech about how instead of killing all humans they will just enslave them. OK anymore speeches? Good we're done. The End.

***SPOILERS OVER KEEP READING***

Wow that was bad. The biggest problem here is the plot makes zero sense, why would anybody with common sense think using apes as servants is a good idea? The actor playing Governor Breck is rather over the top in some parts and is it me or is the ape make up getting worse as these films go on. On the plus side the acting is pretty good espacially from Roddy McDowell and Hari Rohdes. But even with that, avoid this movie and as of right now this has been the worst Planet of the Apes movie I have seen. See you next time and thanks for reading.

The Last Starfighter

Well I guess I will review this because hey it's the 80's and it's sci-fi and I like movies like E.T. and D.A.R.Y.L. so I guess this one should be good. I hope you know how to fly because it's time to review The Last Starfighter.

We start in a trailer park where a boy named Alex Rogan (Lance Guest) lives with is little brother Louis (Chris Hebert) and his mother Jane (Barbara Bosson). He spends most of his time helping out his neighbors instead of doing what he wants like going to the lake with his friend Maggie (Catherine Mary Stewart) and her friends. When he isn't helping his neighbors, he plays an arcade cabinet with a game called The Last Starfighter on it. The game is about defending another galaxy from an evil army. One night Alex is playing The Last Starfigher when someone realizes that Alex might break the high score on the game. So this causes nearly all the people who live there to go and cheer Alex on.....was there really nothing else going on that day? Alex beats the high score and goes to tell his mom who tells him that she got him a loan so that Alex can go to college. Alex goes outside to think about this when a strange man driving the DeLorean from Back to the Future talks to Alex and says that he is the creator of the game and that he wants Alex to come with him.The man introduces himself as Centuari (Robert Preston) and he also reveals that HE IS NOT HUMAN. He is an alien from another planet and his car is a spaceship. Centuari takes Alex to a space station where he tells Alex that since he beat the game he passed the test and he is being recruited as a Starfighter.

Alex talks to a lizard alien named Grig (Dan O'Herihy) who says that Centuari recruited him without permission. Before Alex has a chance to respond someone hacks into the system and sends a message to the Starfighters. The person is Xur an evil overlord who wants to take over the universe. Xur says that there is no hope in defeating him and that he will destroy them all. This scares Alex away and Centuari takes him home. But it looks like Alex left just in time because meanwhile Xur and his friend Lord Kril (Dan Mason) are planning to attack the starfighter base. Now there is a bit of a problem with the movie I would like to bring up here. Xur is not a good villian: he sort of comes off as very whiny and even a bit annoying. Anyway, Xur and Kril kill all The Starfighters. Alex returns home and Centuari gives him a gadget that he can use in case he changes his mind about becoming a Starfighter. Alex finds out that while he was in space a robot named Beta (also Lance Guest) took his place. Alex also finds out that a bunch of alien assassins are after him which means that Xur thinks he is on earth. So Alex calls Centauri and they decide to go back to space where Alex will face Xur. They make it there where it turns out that Centuari was injured and he dies. Bur Grig says that they must move fast so they get in a new prototype ship and plan to take on Xur and Lord Kril.

***SPOILER ALERT STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE END RUINED***

They need to make it through the troops of space soldiers and to the turrets to lower their defences. They come up with the idea of hiding in a hollow asteroid and when most of the soldiers pass by, they will jump out at them. Meanwhile back on earth Beta is revealed to be a fake Alex by one of the Assassins and they go to report it to Xur and Kril. But Beta stops him and all Xur and Kril get is "The last Starfighter...." which Xur assumes meant "The last Starfighter is dead". But he isn't dead and Alex ends up using the mega death ray (that's not what it's called but it's basically what it is) to defeat most of the troops. Kril is angry at Xur for assuming Alex is dead and has Xur locked up. Alex and Grig use the weapons to knock out the engine of the enemy ship which locks Kril's ship into the gravity field of a nearby moon which causes them to crash. Alex is declared a hero, Centuari is alive...somehow...and they want Alex to help rebuild the Starfighter league. Alex lands on earth to say goodbye to his friends and family. Alex asks his friend Maggie to come with him but it looks like she isn't ready to go...ah you faked me out with Nim's Island last time but I know that she will come....any minute now....she's going to change her mind....well I guess she is really going to stay...oh wait she's coming with Alex to have many adventures with Alex. The End.

***SPOILERS OVER KEEP READING***

I enjoyed The Last Starfighter. It had some pretty entertaining action and some relatively interesting characters. A lot of the effects are pretty impressive for the time and some characters like Grig, Beta, and Louis are actually pretty funny. Now like I said before Xur isn't a very good villian; he comes off like he got a double scoop of ice cream instead of a triple scoop and he won't stop complaining about it. Also there are quite a few 80's cliches. But I think that if you see this movie at your local video store it's definitely worth a rent. See you next time where I celebrate Christmas with freaky animation.

AND THE GHOST OF ELIAS KINGSTON REALLY IS.....

Escape from the Planet of the Apes

Well I have good new and I have bad news. The good news is those aliens let me go. The bad news is they planted a bomb in my head and they will  activate it if I don't review all the Planet of the Apes movies by the end of 2015. Now keep in mind like every time I review a sequel there will be spoilers for the first two films. I haven't even started the movie and I already have a problem with this movie. If you remember the last movie ended with the planet exploding. So there is no way for a sequel to happen because none of the original characters are in it  nor can it even take place on The Planet of the Apes. But enough complaining let's start my review of Escape from the Planet of the Apes.

The year is 1973 the American government discovers a spaceship off the cost of California. Inside the ship are three apes Dr. Cornelius (Roddy McDowall), Dr. Zira (Kim Hunter), and Dr. Milo (Sal Mineo). The apes choose not to talk and are taken to the zoo. At this time I would like to point out how incredibly convenient it is for all of these apes to be testing a spaceship just as the planet blew up and it isn't explained how they manged to fix the spaceship since the last time we saw it it was at the bottom of a lake. In the zoo the scientists give them some basic tests but then one of scientists offends Zira and this causes her to talk. The scientists go into the other room to discuss this revelation. But the gorilla in the next cage over chokes Dr. Milo so Milo is taken away. A man named Dr. Lewis Dixon (Bradford Dillman) decides to get them to hold a conference where they will answer any questions about where they came from and who they are.

At the conference they say that they come from the future and that there is a war. The world seems to like these apes except for one man named Dr. Hasslein who fears the apes. The apes are pretty much become celebrities: they go shopping for clothes, ride in limos, and do other things celebrities do. OK I'm just going to stop the movie there and acknowledge what a drastic change of tone this is from the first movie. I mean we go from a man being stranded on distant planet where apes rule to a sitcom. This isn't Escape from the Planet of the Apes it's Vacation from the Planet of the Apes. Zira tours a history museum when all of a sudden Zira realizes she is pregnant. Wait was this a sub plot in the first two movies you may be wondering....well the answer is no they just made it up for this movie. So Dr. Hasslein gets Zira drunk and she tells him that in the future the world is destroyed and apes rule the world. With this information Dr. Hasslein gets permission to interrogate them.

***SPOILER ALERT STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE END RUINED***

Zira and Cornelius  tell Hasslein that a plague wiped out all cats and dogs and the humans replaced them with Apes. But the apes revolted against the humans and enslaved humans. Hasslien gets enough information out of Zira and he convinces the government to kill the Apes. Zira and Cornelius try to escape qnd find Dr. Dixon from before who helps them escape to a circus where a man named Armondo (Ricardo Montalban) helps them meanwhile we cut to Dr. Hasslein trying to find the apes but he can't seem to find them anywhere. We cut back to the Aoes where we see that Zira gave birth to a baby chimp named Milo. They all leave the circus and find a place to hide at an oil rig. The next day Dr. Hasslein catches up with Cornelius and Zira. He then kills Cornelius and Zira but not before Cornelius shoots Hasslein. Wow this is a very big change of tone from the rest of the movie I mean it's like in the middle of an episode of Scooby-Doo; it turns out that it isn't a guy in a costume for once. Sorry back to the movie. But it turns out that Zira switched Milo with a baby chimp at the circus thus perfectly setting up the next sequel. The End.

***SPOILER ALERT STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE END RUINED***

This movie isn't all that great. It isn't as bad as Beneath the Planet of the Apes but it isn't that great either. The humor (even though some of its funny) feel really out of place Dr. Milo at beginning seems to be a bit of a pointless character and the sudden change of tone at the end felt a bit odd. Most of the movie is just Zira and Cornelius comically interacting with the humans. Also the Dr. Hasslein isn't that much of an interesting villain. All I have to say is...please just stick to the first movie.

Beneath the Planet of the Apes

Good news I got my copy of Beneath the Planet of the Apes back from those aliens. It sure would be fun for me to tell you about it. But instead I'll just dive into the review. You should know there will be major spoilers for Planet of The Apes in this, so unless you have seen the first one you may not want to read this review. Well, lets see if the sequel can live up to my expectations. This is Beneath the Planet of the Apes.

We start with a recap of the first movie but when that ends we are introduced to a new character named Brent (James Francicus). Brent is an astronaut who was sent to look for Taylor (Charton Heston) but crash landed. Brent  runs into Nova (Linda Harrison) and Taylor's horse but not Taylor. Brent sees that Nova has Taylor's ID tag and tries to ask Nova if she knows where Taylor is. This causes Nova to have a flash back to Taylor investigating a strange mountain in the desert and disappearing into the mountain. But Nova can't talk, so Brent doesn't get much information. Nova leads Brent to the ape city where he watches Dr. Zaius (Maurice Evans) and a gorilla general named Ursus (James Gregory) arguing over whether or not to go investigate strange occurrences in the desert. Brent and Nova go to Zira (Kim Hunter) and Cornelius (David Watson).  They tell Brent about everything and give him some new clothes. But Brent gets captured and put in a cart to be taken to target practice as a target.

Brent finds a way to escape and runs off into the desert. He finds a cave that appears to be an abandoned New York subway station. Which means...he is on earth (dramatic music). Wait, wait...We already did this...you know, Charlton Heston shouting at The Statue of Liberty. It's not as big a reveal if you already know the twist. I mean, Brent even repeats the first half of the "You Maniacs Speech". But similarities aside, Brent goes around the subway station some more and he finds a tunnel that leads to the ruins of a library. Brent goes into the library where he finds some humans who have psychic powers of speaking by nodding their heads and making sonic shrieks. They say they are a peaceful race, so naturally they worship a giant nuclear missile...wait what? Brent and Nova go to a ceremony worshiping the missile mentioned earlier. During the ceremony the humans reveal that their faces are masks and that............they dipped their faces in guacamole? No they actually reveal that they are mutants, but they look like they dipped their faces in guacamole. After the ceremony Brent is put in a cell. Meanwhile the apes plan to take down the mutants.

***SPOILER ALERT STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE END RUINED***

In the cell Brent meets Taylor (finally, I was wondering where he went) the jailer says he won't kill them because they are a peaceful race. So he just mind controls them to battle to the death....um...yay peace? But before anything else happens the apes led by Dr. Zaius and General Ursus break in and try to take over.  While the jailer is distracted by the apes, Brent and Taylror break out and get Nova. One of the Mutants tries to set off the missile but the apes stop him. Ursus, not knowing how dangerous the missile is, tries to destroy the missile. But Taylor saves the day by detonating the missile destroying all life on the planet. The End. Wow I can't believe it. This means there are no more sequels. What...there are more? How do they make more after that? Why just why? Whatever, let's just get to my final thoughts.

***SPOILERS OVER KEEP READING***

This is not a worthy follow up to Planet of the Apes. Every thing about this movie just copies the first one. For example, the scene where Brent is captured is very similar to when Taylor is captured in the first movie. Even Brent just seems to be a clone of Taylor. In fact, he was going to be played by Burt Reynolds until they realized that James Francicus looked like Charlton Heston. The whole thing about mutant humans with psychic powers seems a bit silly. But all the actors do give good performances and the signature ape make-up looks good on the main apes. As for the extra apes...yeah I could totally tell they wore ape masks. I think what would make this a good movie is more of Taylor, Zira, Zaius, and Cornelius. So if you are looking for a good follow up to Planet of the Apes, don't watch this movie. See you next time.

IT'S NOT A CARTOON BUT HEY IT'S SOMETHING

Planet of the Apes

Well seeing as I just reviewed a science fiction movie I might as well review another. This is my review of Planet of the Apes. I forgot today was Friday (again) so there won't be a cartoon today, sorry. It i s based on a book of the same name by Pierre Boulle. I can't say anything about the book as I haven't read it. But enough monkey business; let's start the review....did I just say "enough monkey business"?

We open in space where we see an astronaut named Taylor (Charton Heston) who is going into some weird preserving pod to sleep. Later the ship crashes on an unknown planet and they find out that the pods kept Taylor and the other astronauts Landon (Robert Gunner) and Dodge (Jeff Burton) alive for thousands of years. But there was an air leak in one of the pods that killed an astronaut named Stewart (Dianne Stanley). The ship starts to sink and they escape before its too late. So they have no idea what planet they are on only that they are in a desert on another planet and they are about 20,000 years into the future. They find a field full of people but they seem to be mute and are as intelligent as stone aged humans. But then people chase them and the other people through the field. The people chasing them are actually apes. The apes shoot Dodge, and Landon is captured along with Taylor but Taylor's throat is damaged and he is unable to talk.

The Ape Counsel
Taylor is being held at a research center where an ape scientist named Dr. Zira (Kim Hunter) names Taylor Bright Eyes and notices how he is trying to talk to her. Zira tries to show it to a higher ranking scientist named Dr. Zaius but Zaius dismisses Taylor saying that he is merely copying Zira. A female human named Nova (Linda Harrison) is transferred to Taylor's cage which gives him someone to spend time with other than gorillas who spray him with hoses. One day Taylor steals Ziras note pad and writes down "My name is Taylor".  Zira takes him to her house and shows him to her fiance Cornelius (Roddy McDowall). Taylor tells them about how he came from another planet and Cornelius says that he could be the missing link between apes and humans. Dr. Zaius finds out about Taylor and ups security around Taylor. One day Taylor decides to escape but is captured, and he regains his ability to talk which just makes the apes more suspicious. Taylor is put on trial with Zira and Cornelius defending him and Zaius and the ape council wanting to punish him. But the ape counsel tampers with the evidence and makes some stuff up to make Taylor lose. So Taylor is still being held at the research center.

***SPOILER ALERT STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE END RUINED***

Zira's nephew Lucius (Lou Wagner) helps Taylor and Nova break out and make it to Zira and Cornelius. They flee to where Cornelius was doing research on humans to prove to Dr. Zaius that humans should be treated with respect. But a group of apes lead by Zaius attacks them and Taylor convinces Zaius to come with him to the cave to find out the truth. They find the remains of a human house which of course enrages Zaius but before Zaius says anything his men attack Lucius but Taylor and his group take Zaius hostage. Taylor tells Lucius to tell Zaius' men to give him a horse and enough food and water for him and Nova.  So Zaius gives him what he wants but not before warning him that he may not like what he finds. So Taylor and Nova ride away and days later they find out the truth. They find the remains of the Statue of Liberty which means that he was on earth the whole time and that the apes took it over. Now I do have to admit that that was probably the best twist ending ever. Too bad that every TV show, movie, and comic gives it away....oh well. The End.

****SPOILERS OVER KEEP READING***

Planet of the Apes is one of the best sci fi movies ever. Taylor is a very smart and likable hero and the story is very original. Dr. Zaius is also a one of the best sci fi villains ever. I also like the make up effects for the apes they are very convincing most of the time. But like I said most of the time sometimes the lip movements don't match up. But honestly that is really the only problem I can think of. So this is a great stand alone sci fi movie and I hope you....whats that Waylon...they made sequels.....oh no.
