Mamma Mia!

Hmm.... A movie where the songs are made by a Swedish band. Let's set it in Greece. Because that makes sense. If you haven't guessed by the opening joke I'm going to be reviewing Mamma Mia! Yes, I have to put an exclamation point there. It's like Jeb! Bush's name. It's impossible not to put it there. Anyway, let's see if this movie is any good.

Characters: The main character of this movie is Sophie. She is really boring. I can't remember anything about her personality. She also has two friends who are just as boring. Also there's Shopie's fiance. I can't remember anything about him. He was kind of just the good looking love interest. Then we have Donna. She is Sophie's mother and played my Meryl Streep. Donna is my favourite character. She seems to have the most personality. Donna also has two friends but they were kind of annoying. And finally we have Bill, Sam, and Harry. They are all Sophie's possible fathers (If you haven't seen the movie it'll make sense once I get the plot section). All I remember is that Sam was played by Pierce Brosnan. I can't remember much about the other two. Okay, so all the characters are forgettable. But at least the songs are good. Right?

Music: I like the music in the movie. Most of the songs are pretty good. But the choreography kind of kills it. The choreography for the Dancing Queen musical number (As well as a few others) is incredibly lazy. If you look at the picture on the left you'll get an idea of what the choregraphy in this movie is like. Also, it turns out that Pierce Brosnan can't sing very well. Also the songs are very poorly spaced out. I remember it was less than a minute between this one musical number and another. Overall, the songs are good but the very lazy choreography as well as the singing of Pierce Brosnan kind of ruins it.

Plot: Okay so the plot of the movie is that Sophie doesn't know who her father is so she invites three men who might be be her father (Bill, Sam, and Harry) to her wedding on a island in Greece (Where the only actual Greek people are extras). But then some wedding drama happens or something.... Honestly it's just a bunch of scenes loosely connected through ABBA songs. It's also filled with predictable cliches. So it's not exactly an original plot. But what do I think of it in conclusion?

Conclusion: Overall, Mamma Mia! is a predictable movie with characters aren't very interesting and songs that aren't will choreographed and spaced out. But, I still kind of recommend it. I really don't know why there's something about how it doesn't take itself so seriously that makes me want to watch it again. So in conclusion: It's a cheesy movie with some good songs (Even if Pierce Brosnan can't sing) that I recommend. See you next time.

The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T

So in my last review I said I would review a Dr. Suess movie. Now instead of reviewing an adaptation of one of his books I will be reviewing an original movie that Suess actually wrote. This should be a very interesting review. Oh and before I start I want to let you know that I was busy this week and ran out of time for a cartoon. Now it's time to start.

We open with a boy name Bart Colins (Tommy Rettig) practicing the piano for his teacher Dr. Terwilliker (Hans Conried). Bart tells the audience about his like his mother (Mary Healy) and his nice friend the plumber August Zablowdowski (Peter Lind Hayes). But while practicing he falls asleep at the piano and starts dreaming. Bart dreams that he is playing a giant piano for Dr. Tiddlywinks and that Dr.  Tootles  is also setting up a piano a academy and i the morning he will have 500 students. Bart runs into August and he tells Bart that his mother is at the academy and his mother is second in command. So Bart goes to see his mom but Dr. Teletubbies finds out that Bart isn't in his cell so he sends out some guard to chase him. He escapes them an tells August about it. So August goes up to check on Barts mother.

August goes to see Dr. Tum-tum but he thinks that Dr. Telephone seems like a normal guy. I mean I know so many people who shovel money into vaults, offer their guest vintage pickle juice, and randomly break out into song and dance. So thinking that Dr. Tootsie-roll is a normal guy he and Bart head back but Bart wants to convince him. So Bart breaks into Dr. Turtles vault and find a execution order for August. But before he shows it to August he falls into a dungeon of musicians. The musicians go on to do a musical number that I think would look cool in a drawing or cartoon but looks kind of weird in live action. After that weird musical number we makes it to August and tells him that Dr. Tubular wants him dead. So when August finds out they both decide to get Barts mom and than try to get out of this madhouse.

***SPOILER ALERT STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE END RUINED***

They break out Barts mom but as they start too leave Dr. Television comes in and sends them all to the dungeon. While in the cell they come up with a plan. August takes some sort of a weird product that can suck up bad smells from the air. So Bart wants to modify it so that it will suck up noises so that the first recital will not go well and so that it will give him a chance take down Dr. Termites. When the music thing is read and Bart is being lead to the concert August warns Bart that the music thing is very atomic. Meanwhile Dr. Terminus sings a song about...... well just click here, If you didn't see the video basically he puts on one of the most ridiculous outfits in movie history. Dr. Tug boat comes out and tells all the students at the academy to start playing the song. Bart activares the music thing and this gives the kids a chance to take down Dr. Twilight Zone. But than Bart wakes up and it was all just a  dream....right? The End.

The 500 Fingers of Dr. T is a interesting movie. The sets and costume are very Dr. Suess like and I can see that they have a lot of work put into them, Sometimes I thought it became a bit too weird even for Dr. Suess. Some scenes had a goofy feel too it but maybe a bit too goofy for example look at that picture of Dr. Trumpet up there. I think what would of made this film 5,000 times better I mean think about in the live action The Cat in the Hat The Cat looks freaky and weird because the drawings of Dr. Suess don't exactly Translate well into live action. In fact I don't mean to sound like a conspiracy nut, but I half of me thinks that it was originally supposed to be animated. Well that's all I have to say about this movie I don't love it but I don't hate it either. So you will either be confused by it's style laugh at it's style or be amazed by it's style. Se you next time.

The Muppet Movie

Oh boy more Muppets. If you haven't guessed, I am huge fan of The Muppets. So I will review the first feature film that The Muppets made. So time to start my review of The Muppet Movie.

The movie starts with The Muppets going to see a movie which is actually The Muppet Movie. So they start the movie and we watch it too. We open with Kermit (Jim Henson) singing "The Rainbow Connection". A Hollywood agent (Dom DeLuise) hears him and say he has talent and gives him an ad saying it wants frogs to try out for movies. So Kermit goes to a nearby town and goes to a bar called El Sleezo. Inside the bar he meets Fozzie Bear (Frank Oz) who works as a comedian at the bar. Fozzie makes the crowd angry, so Kermit does a dance routine to make them happy but it doesn't work. So after escaping from the bar, Kermit tells Fozzie about going to Hollywood. So Fozzie decides to come with him, but before they get too far they are stopped by a man. The man introduces himself as Doc Hopper (Charles Durning) and his sidekick Max (Austin Pendleton.) Hopper wants Kermit to be the mascot for his franchise of frog leg restaurants. But Kermit refuses and leaves, but Doc Hopper says he will find him.

So after singing "Moving Right Along" they stop the car at a church. In the church is the band The Electric Mayhem. Kermit and Fozzie tell them everything. So they disguise Fozzie's car with paint and bubbles. So they say goodbye to Electric Mayhem and head on their way. Kermit and Fozzie crash into a plumbing truck owned by The Great Gonzo (Dave Goelz). They take Gonzo with them and stop by a car dealership to trade-in their car. They talk to a man named Mad Man Mooney (Milton Berle) and his assistant Sweetums (Richar Hunt). Sweetums accidentally uses a fly to make the car cheaper (don't ask) so they buy the car. So they leave, but they forget to take Sweetums with them, so he spends the rest of the movie chasing them. They stop at a carnival next. At the carnival the watch a beauty contest and the winner is Miss. Piggy (also Frank Oz). Miss. Piggy falls in love with Kermit and when Kermit tells her they are going to Hollywood she runs off to go pack. Thinking that Miss. Piggy left, Kermit and Fozzie go to buy ice cream from Bob Hope. Gonzo buys some balloons, but he buys so many and they are so light that he starts to fly away. They chase Gonzo and so does Doc Hopper, but Kermit gets Gonzo gets back in the car. Later they stop in a town and Kermit and Miss. Piggy go to dinner. At dinner they are served by a sarcastic Steve Martin. Miss. Piggy gets a phone call and leaves Kermit. Rowlf (also Jim Henson) is a piano player at the diner so they sing a song together, but then Kermit gets a phone call saying that Doc Hopper kidnapped Miss. Piggy. But Kermit stops Doc Hopper, Max, and Mad Scientist Mel Brooks from kidnaping Miss. Piggy. Miss. Piggy gets another phone call and leaves.

***SPOILER ALERT STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE END RUINED***

Rowlf comes with them to Hollywood and they run into Miss. Piggy on the side of the road and let her in. But the car runs out of gas and they stop in the desert. But The Electric Mayhem find them and take them to Hollywood. But before they get there, Max pulls them over disguised as a police officer. Max says Hopper is crazy and that they need to stop him. So they decide to face him in the nearby abandoned western town. In the town they meet Dr. Bunson Honeydew (Also Dave Goelz) and Beaker (also Richard Hunt); they show Kermit some temporary growth pills. But then Hopper and his men come into town. But Kermit tries to talk to Hopper and tell him what he is doing is wrong. But Hopper still wants to kill Kermit, but fortunately Animal (also Frank Oz) eats all the growth pills and scares Hopper away. So they all make it to Hollywood and Orson Welles gives them a contract and we end with a reprise of "The Rainbow Connection". The End

The Muppet Movie in my opinion is the best of the Muppets. I really like the heartwarming moral and the memorable songs (Except for Miss. Piggy's solo, but that was supposed to be silly). All the Muppets are just the way you remembered them, and honestly there are very few thing I dislike about this movie. I also like its sense of humor and all the crazy cameos. But I will say some times the jokes aren't that great and Doc Hopper is too much of the evil business man stereotype. But still this is one of those movies everyone will enjoy. See you in the near future.

The Wizard of Oz

Guess what I just had my 13th birthday. So to celebrate I will review a classic fantasy movie. The Wizard of Oz. HOORAY! It is based on a book of the same name by L. Frank Baum. Oh, and if my cartoons look different it's because I got a new set of pastels for by birthday. So here we go with The Wizard of Oz.

We open on a farm in Kansas where a little girl named Dorothy (Judy Garland) lives. She lives there with her Auntie Em (Clara Blandick) and Uncle Henry (Charley Grapewin) and three farmhands Hunk (Ray Bolger), Hickory (Jack Haley), and Zeke (Bert Lahr). Dorothy wishes she had more in life then living on a farm so she sings her song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". But a woman named Miss. Gulch (Margaret Hamilton) wants to take Dorothy's dog Toto (Terry) away because he bit her leg. But after she takes him away Toto escapes from Miss. Gulch and Dorothy and Toto decide to run away together. They come a across a man named Professor Marvel (Frank Morgan) who claims he can see the past present and future. After  stealing a picture of the farm when Dorothy isn't looking he tells her that Auntie Em is very upset and sick. So this makes Dorothy go home but a horrible tornado is coming and she can't get into the storm cellar because it's locked and the family can't hear her. So she hides in her bedroom but gets hit in the head with a window she is out cold. When she wakes up she is in the tornado.

Fortunately the house lands in a colorful land. She is greeted by a woman who says she is Glenda the Good Witch (Billie Burke).  She tells Dorothy that her house landed on The Wicked Witch of the East and saved the town of Munchkin Land. So all the Munchkins come out to sing her a song. But they are interrupted by The Wicked Witch of the West (also Margret Hamilton) and she threatens Dorothy but she can't hurt her because she has The Witch of the East's Ruby Slippers. So The Witch leaves. Glenda says the only way to get home is to follow The Yellow Brick Road to meet The Wizard of Oz to send her home. She comes to a fork in the road and doesn't know which way to go. But she sees a talking Scarecrow (also Ray Bolger) who claims to have no brains just straw. So Dorothy tells the Scarecrow that he can go with her to The Wizard to ask for a Brian. After walking awhile they come across a rusted Tin Man (also Jack Haley); after using an oil can, the Tin Man says he doesn't have heart. So Dorothy asks him to come along to meet the Wizard. They are going through a dark forest when they meet a Lion (also Bert Lahr). But it turns out he is a coward so he comes with them to The Wizard to get courage. So after Glenda helps them through a magical poppy field, they make it to the Emerald City. They sing a song and get ready to go to the Wizard. When they go in they see The Wizard of Oz (also Frank Morgan) who is a giant floating head. He won't grant their wishes unless they give him The Wicked Witch's broomstick. So our heroes go to The Witch's Castle.

***SPOILER ALERT STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE END RUINED***

The Wicked Witch sends her flying monkeys to stop them. They kidnap Dorothy and leave. The Lion, Tin Man, and Scarecrow disguise as guards (which are apparently called Winkies) and break into the castle. They save Dorothy, but the witch chases after them. She corners them and decides to kill the Scarecrow by setting him on fire. But Dorothy  throws a bucket of water at The Wicked Witch and the water melts her. So they return to The Wizard of Oz with the broomstick, but The Wizard refuses to grant them their wishes because it turns out he is a fake. He says he was just a circus performer, but one day a hot air balloon that was part of the act got swept away in a tornado and he ended up there. So now that he is revealed, he still grants their wishes. The Scarecrow gets a diploma, the Tin Man gets a clock shaped like a heart, and the Cowardly Lion gets a medal. Finally he travels with Dorothy home in his hot air balloon. But it accidentally leaves without her. But luckily Glenda comes in and tells her that all she has to do is tap her heels together and say "There're's no Place Like Home". She does this and ends up home in Kansas and everyone says it was a dream. But Dorothy says it wasn't a dream she says that the farm hands were there and so was that fortune teller and so was Miss. Gulch; they where all there. The End. Well not so much "The End" but more like to be continued in the countless remakes, spin offs, sequels, and TV shows.

The Wizard of Oz is a fantastic classic movie. Other than the occasional obvious backdrop, the costumes and sets hold up very well even today. I really can't find many or even any bad songs. True some things don't make sense like why doesn't Glenda just come along with them since it is shown that she has magical powers. But the movie makes up for that because you really feel for the characters and want them to succeed. So if you haven't seen this movie (which I doubt) (no offense to those of you who haven't seen it) check it out; it still holds up really really well. See you next time.
