Top Ten Cartoon Theme Songs

I am back with another top ten list. This time I am listing the top ten cartoon theme songs. The rules are: it can be a sung or instrumental theme song to a cartoon. I will leave a brief description of what makes the songs so good. I will also leave a link to the songs so you can hear them for yourself. So without further ado I give you the top ten cartoon theme songs.

10 FETCH! With Ruff Ruffman
It kind of has a nice jazzy and/or bluesy beat to it which makes it kind of catchy.







9 Felix the Cat
It's fast paced and very upbeat and it makes you want to sing along.







8 Teen Titans
It's a very action packed theme (Which makes sense seeing as it's a super hero show). It sort of tells you about the main characters of the show.







7 Arthur
This song has a nice steel drum beat but if you listen to the lyrics...they have nothing to do with the show.







6 Scooby Doo (1969)
 It seems to be slow and fast at the same time. It also sounds a bit ghostly which makes sense seeing that the main theme of the show is fake monsters.






5 Gravity Falls
It has sort of a mysterious feel which is the tone of the show. It is also very fasted paced.






4 Inspector Gadget 
It doesn't have many words but it's the tune that's catchy, in fact it sounds a bit like a computer booting up.







3 The Pink Panther
It has relaxed/Sly/Sneaky tone to it that makes you want to hum along.






2  Shaun the Sheep
It has a rock and roll sound and it's very fast. It embeds it's way into your head for days before you can get it out.







1 Animaniacs
This song is zany to the max. It's so over the top and out of control you just want to sing along.









Now before I finish I want to go over an honorable mention, a song that was going to be on my list but didn't make it I wont go into detail about this song just let  you listen to the song. That honorable mention is: Gummi Bears.

 DEAD: FROM GRIM TOWN CEMETARY

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium

What to say about the movie? Not much really. Is there anything else I can say to stretch this paragraph longer. Look at that it's long enough now. Let's start.










The movie starts with a woman named Molly Mahoney (Natalie Portman). She wants to be a composer but at the moment she is just the manager of a magical toy store where the toys come to life, called Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium. Molly meets with her boss Mr. Edward Magorium (Dustin Hoffman). Mr. Magorium says he has a gift for her which turns out to be a big block of wood (wait, what?). Molly is confused by the block of wood but Magorium changes the subject and tells her that he is hiring an accountant. Mr. Magorium opens the store. The accountant named Henry Weston (Jason Bateman) arrives at The Emporium. Mr. Magorium shows Henry to his office and tells him that he is going to die and he is leaving the store to Molly. A kid with no friends (Who is also the narrator) named Eric (Zach Mills) notices a small grey spot that seems to be on the wall and he tells Mr. Magorium about it and Mr. Magorium tells Eric to keep an eye on grey spot.

Quote from movie: "Life is an occasion  rise to it"

The next day Mr. Magorium tells Molly about the fact that he is leaving the store to her. But she isn't sure she is ready to own the store and the store goes berserk. Luckily everyone escapes the store. So the employees of the store hold a meeting. Magorium once again tells Molly that he is going to die and he is leaving the shop to Molly. Molly checks him in to a hospital. But the doctors can't find anything wrong with him so he goes back to his home in the toy store. The next day Molly makes sure that Mr. Magorium has the best last day of his life ever. When the day ends Mr. Magorium goes back to the store and he throws a paper airplane which makes the world around him dissolve. The next day after Mr. Magoriums funeral the store is completely lifeless and Molly gives up and puts the store up for sale.

Molly shows a family around. The kid in the family plays with one of the toys and that toy comes back to life. Eric tries to convince Henry to buy the store. So Henry decides go to the store to have a talk with Molly. During the conversation Henry notices the block of wood from the beginning. Molly still believes that the block will do something. Then the block starts to fly. Henry is so shocked by a flying block of wood he passes out. Henry wakes up. Molly tells him that he was at the store alone all night. She also denies that she ever had the block of  wood. Wait why is she denying the block of wood? Mr. Magorium clearly gave it to her. Yeah the movie is not very clear about that. Sorry back to the plot. Henry makes Molly believe in herself  and the store comes back to life. The End

Now for what I think of the movie. Well for starters the effects for the living toys are pretty good. Dustin Hoffman captures the weirdness of Edward Magorium pretty well. Natalie Portman and Justin Bateman do a good job as Molly Mahoney and Henry Weston. I also like the moral about living life to the fullest. This movie also includes a cameo from a certain famous frog. But there are some problems. For example: there is some very in your face product placement for things like "Playomobile". Not all the jokes in this are laugh your socks off funny, just giggle worthy. Also there are some bits that are so cheesy. I liked this movie. But that doesn't mean you will like it. But if you don't mind the cheesiness I think you will like it.

NOWARESVILLE. POPULATION: MOUSTACHE MAN AND PLASTIC STATUE

Popeye

Popeye is a live action movie based on a comic strip and cartoon of the same name. Most of the episodes are about a sailor named Popeye rescuing his love interest named Olive Oyl from the villain named Bluto. I rented a DVD of the cartoons and the show is pretty good. But will this movie be as good as the Comic and Cartoon? Let's find out.







The movie starts in the town of Sweethaven where the towns people sing an anthem of some sort entitled "Sweethaven". Now, the song has a very catchy tune, but the problem is there are certain points in the song where you can't tell what the people are saying but the tune is still catchy. Sorry I got distracted. At the same time a stranger comes to town. That stranger is Popeye (Robin Williams). When Popeye docks, the tax collector (Donald Moffat) taxes him with a bunch of things like docking tax and docking under the dock tax. Popeye looks for a place with a room for rent/hotel that he can stay in. He finds a house with a room for rent. The house belongs to the Oyl family. It turns out the one of the Oyl's named Olive (Shelley Duvall) is engaged to the most powerful (not to mention scariest) man in town Bluto (Paul L. Smith). The next day Popeye is hanging out in a restaurant and everyone in the restaurant sings the song "Everything Is Food". Now the song itself is pretty good. But food has absolutely nothing with the main plot. Anyway moving on. At the restaurant Popeye tells a guy named Wimpy (Paul Dooley) that he came to Sweethaven to find his long lost father. Some ruffians make fun of Popeye and Popeye defeats them.

 That night it's Olive and Bluto's engagement party. But Olive realizes she can't find anything good to say about Bluto so she leaves. She runs into Popeye and they both run into an abandoned baby named Swee'pea (Wesley Ivan Hurt). They decide to take care of Swee'pea. Bluto realizes that Olive left and he throws a fit and sings the song "I'm Mean" in which Bluto destroys the house. Bluto officially declares Popeye his enemy. Popeye decides to compete in a boxing match against the town's boxing champion (Peter Bray). If he wins, he gets a big cash prize so he can pay for the damage that Bluto did. Popeye defeats the champion and wins the prize. Then Olive tells Popeye that she knew that he was  going to win because she asked Swee'pea if Popeye was going to win and Swee'Pea nodded his head which means Swee'pea is psychic. Wait stop stop... Swee,pea is a psychic? That's kind of out of nowhere.

 Wimpy decides to take Swee'pea to the horse race so he can earn extra money. Popeye finds Wimpy and tells him if he uses Swee'pea's Psychic powers like that he will leave and Popeye does leave the Oyl house and takes Swee'pea with him. As Popeye leaves with Swee'pea and gets charged by the tax collector for some sort of tax and Popeye tosses the tax collector into the water. The whole town cheers but in all the confusion Swee'pea gets kidnaped by Bluto. Bluto also kidnaps Olive. Meanwhile on Bluto's boat, it turns out that Bluto's boss is...Popeye's father Poop-deck Pappy (Ray Walston) *insert "Star Wars" joke here*. But Bluto betrays Pappy. So it's up to Popeye, Pappy, and the Oyls to save Swee'pea and Olive. Popeye and company set sail to find Bluto. Bluto sails to an island and uses Swee'pea's Psychic abilities to dive for a burried treasure (that's also out of nowhere). Popeye defeats Bluto (by eating spinach) and he saves Swee'pea and Olive and they end it with the Popeye theme song "I'm Popeye the Sailor Man". The End.

This movie is pretty good...not a masterpiece but still pretty good. Let's start with the problems. For starters the plot is all over the place: I mean long lost fathers, psychic babies, and buried treasure? Yeah  all over the place. Also some may find Olive Oyl to be more annoying then she was in the cartoon and/or comic strip. There are a lot of cartoon sound effects that can be annoying. But there are a lot of cartoony gags so I guess you can let that pass. But there are some good things too. I like the set and costume design a lot. A lot of the jokes are funny. The songs are also pretty good with only a few intolerable songs. Also most importantly it is like the cartoon/comic (unlike other adaptations of cartoons). It's a good movie but it's not for everyone.

Wakko's Wish

Wakko's Wish is a direct-to-video movie of the TV show, Animaniacs. Animniacs is about some out of control cartoon character named Yakko Wakko and Dot and their friends (I totally recommend the show). So without further ado it is time for my review of Wakko's Wish.

In the town of Acme Falls (in the country of Warnerstock) everyone is happy. But one day the king of the county is over throw by a man named Salazar (Paxton Whitehead) and everyone in Acme Falls is miserable because the tax collector Baron Von Plotz (Frank Welker) is taxing them a lot. In Acme Falls there are three orphans, The Warner Brothers (and The Warner Sister). Their names are Yakko (Rob Paulsen) Wakko (Jess Harnel) and Dot (Tress MacNeille). It seems that Dot is sick and needs an operation so Wakko goes out into the world and comes back one year later. When he gets back Wakko says he has a half a penny and the towns people sing the song, "He's Got a Hay-Penny". Wakko decides to use the hay-penny to pay for Dot's operation. But then the tax collector taxes him and takes it away and everyone is miserable. That night after Yakko and Dot go to sleep Wakko is still awake. Wakko makes a wish on a star (while singing) and a rumbling fairy named Pip (Ben Stein) tells him that he chose The Wishing Star and the star lands very far away. Pip tells Wakko he has to find it to make the wish. So Pip leaves and Wakko tells his siblings about the star and the next day they go out to find it. They sing the song "The Wishing Star" in which they tell the citizens of Acme Falls about the star and they all want the star. So it's a race to get the star. This is probably the best song in the movie because it's so big and extravagant. In fact I'm surprised that the crews voices didn't give out during the song (and it's sung to the tune of Hungarian Rhapsody which is pretty cool).

"TO THE WISHING STAR"

Two evil mice named Pinky (also Rob Paulsen) and The Brain (Maurice LaMarche) use a flying machine to get there. On the way to The Wishing Star a little girl named Mindy (Nancy Cartwright) and Mindy's dog named Buttons (also Frank Welker) follow Slappy (Sherri Stoner) and Skippy (Nathan Ruegger) Squirrel to the wishing star and some pigeons make there way to the star as well. They all finally make it to the star (after an avalanche). (Sorry I couldn't say more about the second half of the movie. It just felt unnecessary to go into extreme detail about getting to the star.)

But King Salazar traps them all. Luckily The Warner Kids lie to Salazar by telling them they know secrets about the star. So Salazar invites them to his castle. But when they wont tell Salazar the secrets that they don't know he sends them into The Tunnel of Your Worst Nightmares. So they tell him fake information but in classic Looney Toons style they trick Salazar and make him angrier. So he has them executed  but Dot uses her extreme cuteness on the guard Captain and he let's them go. The Warners make their way to The Wishing Star but Dot gets hit by a cannon and dies...no wait it's a fake out death, never mind.Yeah I kind of new it was a fake out death for two reason: first of all Dot is one of the main characters and second the death is so over the top (but regardless it's still a sad scene). Anyway Wakko makes his wish for two Hay-Pennys and pays for Dot's operation (which turns out to just be plastic surgery). It also Turns out that The Warners are the heirs to the throne which means they rule the kingdom and everyone elses wish comes true (I won't go into to much detail about that). The End.

With great animation colorful characters and memorable songs, this is a great movie. It helps to watch the show first that way you know the characters better and some jokes are funnier once you  have watched the show. Speaking of the show, I do have to say it's nothing like the show...in a good way. Because if it was, I don't think I could survive one solid hour of super duper nonsensical insanity. However there are a lot of reprise songs in this movie but I didn't mind that much. Also I found the villain to be a bit weak. It's a Great movie from a great show (again I totally recommend the show).

Frozen

Now it is time for a review of Disney's newest animated movie, "Frozen". It's based on a book called "The Ice Queen" by Hans Cristian Anderson. Oh boy, I can't wait to start. So why am I waiting? Let's go.

Hans and Anna

One night in the kingdom of Arendelle two little princesses (who are also sisters) are awake at night. One of the girls is named Elsa (Idina Menzel) has the power to create ice and the other is named Anna (Kristen Bell) who has no powers. They are staying up late playing with the ice powers when Elsa accidentally zaps Anna in the head with a bolt of ice. Her parents take them to some trolls (who look like "Chia Pets") which heal Anna and erase her memory of Elsa having ice powers. Elsa is given a separate room from Anna and is isolated from the outside world. We get the song, "Do You Want to Build a Snowman", where Anna tries to talk to Elsa but Elsa keeps ignoring her. Elsa and Anna's parents go on a trip over seas but their boat sinks. Years later it's Elsa's coronation day. We get the song "For the First Time in Forever". Anna explores the main city and meets a visiting prince named Hans (Santino Fontana) who Anna falls in love with. Hans also says he has 12 brothers. The coronation goes well. At the reception, Hans proposes to Elsa and she say she wants to marry him. I like this bit because it sort of makes fun of how quickly characters in fairy tails fall in love. Elsa has an argument with Anna about marrying a guy she just met, and Elsa loses control of her ice powers. Which plunges the kingdom into an eternal winter. When her ice powers are revealed she flees the kingdom. Anna decides to go after Elsa and she leaves Hans in charge.

Meanwhile, on a mountain range, Elsa sings the song "Let It Go" about being free from the people who are afraid if her. During the song she creates an ice palace and a snowman. Meanwhile, Anna is off  to find Elsa but she falls off her horse and the horse runs away. She stops by a trading post and buys some supplies and runs into a man named Kristoff (Jonathan Groff). Anna asks him to take her to Elsa and he says yes. But their sled crashes and they have to walk to Elsa's ice palace. On the way they meet a living snowman named Olaf (Josh Gad) who was created by Elsa. Now when I saw the trailer for this movie I thought Olaf was going to be that annoying comic relief character that would never shut up. But much to my surprise he was very very funny. They used him just enough so that he wouldn't be annoying and added just the right amount of naivety. Back to the story. They make it to Elsa's castle. Anna tries to get Elsa to come back but she loses control of her powers and zaps Anna in the heart with a bolt of ice. They leave the castle. Anna seems to be freezing up from the inside so Kristoff decides to take Anna to his family for help.

Meanwhile, back in the kingdom, Hans hears that Anna was hurt by Elsa and sends some warriors to capture her. They succeed in their task. Elsa wakes up in the dungeon. Kristoff takes Anna and Olaf to his family and it turns out that his family is the "Chia Pet" trolls from the beginning. The trolls sing another song and tell Anna that only an act of true love can unfreeze Anna's heart. Anna goes back to Arendelle so Hans can kiss her. But when she gets back Hans reveals that he only wanted to marry her for control of the kingdom, and he puts out the fire in the fire place which is keeping Anna alive. Now I have to admit the plot twist about Hans being the real villain seems forced (to me). It just feels like they didn't want Elsa to be a villain. Sorry I went on one of my rants. But Olaf gets in and rebuilds the fire.They go out to find Kristoff so he can kiss Anna. We get the climax in which Elsa gets out of the dungeon and Anna turns into an ice sculpture. Elsa sees Anna as a sculpture and she cries and gives her a hug which breaks the spell. Oh, I get it it's not true love that breaks the spell (like in Sleeping Beauty or Beauty and the Beast). It's sibling love, and that's a nice touch. The summer comes back as Elsa learns to control her powers. Anna and Kristoff get married and they all live happily ever after. The End.

This movie is great.  Most of the songs are memorable. Olaf is one of the best comic relief characters ever. Also the background animation (and animation in general) is amazing. But there are some problems: They try to squeeze three or four songs together in the beginning and I find the trolls to be annoying. See it while it's still in theatres. I'm also getting it when it's out on DVD.
 

CARTOON EVOLUTION

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Now before I start I want to clarify that I am reviewing the 2005 version of the film. It's based on a book of the same name written by Roald Dahl. Just a heads up, I am putting a cartoon at the end of this review because I feel like it. Let's start.

Charlie's house

The movie starts with a poor boy named Charlie Bucket (Freddie Highmore) who lives with a loving family. Charlie asks his Grandpa Joe (David Kelly) about a chocolate factory down the street from Charlie's house. Grandpa Joe says that he used to work there. He also says that it started off as a small store run by a man named Willy Wonka who made the most amazing candy. One day it turned into a factory that even made a chocolate castle for an Indian Prince. But some spies sneaked into the factory and told Wonka's rivals about all of Wonka's candy recipes. So Wonka closed down the factory. But someone must work in the factory because they still make chocolate. The next day Wonka announces that he hid five golden tickets in five Wonka bars all over the world and he wants five children to find them. Whoever finds them will get a tour of Wonka's  factory, and one of them will get a special prize. The whole word goes Wonka Bar crazy. The first one to get a ticket is a greedy boy named Augustus Gloop (Philip Wiegratz). The second ticket is found by a Spoiled girl named Veruca Salt (Julia Winter) who didn't find it but made her father (James Fox) make a bunch of workers find it (yes she's that spoiled). The third ticket is found by the competitive Violet Beauregarde (AnnaSophia Robb). They changed Violet from just being obsessed with gum to being obsessed with winning (and still gum) which I think is a good change. The Next kid to get a ticket is the aggressive Mike Teavee. Meanwhile, Charlie wants a ticket but he doesn't have much money and he already bought two Wonka Bars already and none of them had a ticket. But one day he finds some money on the side of the road and buys a Wonka Bar and it has a golden ticket inside. He runs back home and tells his family. Grandpa Joe agrees to accompany Charlie at the factory.

The next day Charlie and the other kids go into The Factory and meet Willy Wonka (Johnny Depp). Wonka takes them to the candy forest (well at least that's what I call it). Wonka says that they can help themselves to all the candy they want. One of the kids notices some odd creatures (Deep Roy). Wonka says that they are Oompa Loompas from Loompaland. But Augustus Gloop starts eating from the chocolate river and he falls in. He gets sucked into a pipe, and then the Ooompa Loompa's sing a song. Augustus shoots up the pipe and an Oompa Loompa takes his mother Mrs. Gloop (Franziska Troegner) to the room where the pipe leads. Then the rest of the kids get in a boat. While on the boat ride Charlie asks Willy Wonka about his childhood, resulting in Wonka having a flashback. (Flashback start) Wonka as a kid is trick-or-treating on Halloween when he comes home his father, Dr. Wilbur Wonka (Christopher Lee) who is a dentist, is worried about Willy's health and throws all of his Halloween candy into the fire place (flashback over). The boat stops at the inventing room. Inside the room are weird contraptions which make ever weirder candy. One machine makes a stick of gum which works as a three course meal. Violet tries it and when she gets to dessert (which is blueberry pie) she turns into a giant blueberry. Some Oompa Loompa's roll her away (while singing a song) and her mother (Missi Pyle) comes with Violet. The next room is the nut room. The nut room is a room full of squirrels who crack open nuts, and if they get a bad nut they throw it down a giant hole in the floor. Veruca Salt says that she wants a squirrel and she tries to get one. The squirrels tap on her head and she is declared a bad nut and her and her father are tossed down the hole (while the Oompa Loompa's sing a song). Charlie asks Wonka what the first candy he had was which causes him to have another flashback. (Flashback start) young Wonka is cleaning the fireplace (where his father burned the halloween candy) while cleaning it he finds a chocolate ball, he eats it and becomes obsessed with candy (flashback over). They enter the TV room which turns a giant chocolate bar into a normal sized candy bar on TV. Naturally, Mike TeaVee has to try it. It makes Mike tiny and some Oompa Loompa's take him and his Father (Adam Godley) to the taffy stretching machine to make mike bigger (and this the crazyest Oompa Loopa song in the movie).

Realizing that Charlie is the only child left, Wonka declares him the winner. They board Wonka's amazing glass elevator. Now on the elevator Wonka has another flash back. (Flashback start) young Willy Wonka says that he wants to go to the candy capitals of the world and he runs away from home but he doesn't go far. When he comes back home he sees that his entire house is gone. How it happened, I don't know (flashback over). The glass elevator crashes through the roof of Charlie's house. He tells Charlie's family that Charlie is the heir to the factory. But Wonka wants Charlie to live in the factory without his family. Charlie says no. Wonka's candy sales are going down so he goes to Charlie. Willy Wonka and Charlie go to find Wonka's father. So they go to Dr. Wonka's house and he recognizes him. Wonka is reunited with his father and Wonka even lets Charlie work in the factory with his family. The End.

This is a great movie. Johnny Depp has some very funny lines. The design for the factory is very wacky and creative. I also like how they improved the kids from the book (who aren't Charlie). It also has a timeless feel to it, like it could take place anywhere between the 1970s and now. But sometimes Johnny Depp can be annoying. Also I find Charlie to be a bit of a goodie-two-shoes nice guy. I enjoyed this film a lot. By the way I am reviewing Frozen next.
