You know what I like...stop motion animation. I do not know why, I just do. So I will review this stop motion movie, The Pirates! Band of Misfits. It is loosely based on the book The Pirates! in an Adventure with Scientists by Gideon Defoe. So lets go on a high seas adventure with The Pirates! Band of Misfit.
We start in 1837 where we see The Pirate Captain (Hugh Grant) and his crew going to Blood Island to sign up for The Pirate of the Year Award. After signing up he tries to raid some ships but they all end up failing. After failing to raid a ghost ship The Pirate Captain has a talk with his first mate, The Pirate With a Scarf (Martin Freeman), and they decide to raid the next ship they see. They get on the next ship they see... but it has no gold on it... just Charles Darwin (David Tennant). So they capture Charles and he recognises The Pirate Captain's "parrot", Polly, as the last living Dodo Bird. Charles convinces The Captain to enter Polly in The Scientist of the Year award for a valuable prize. The Pirate Captain Agrees because he wants to take the prize so he can win The Pirate of the Year Award. So they all head to London and stay the night at Darwin's home.

Hello I am Mr. Bobo |
When they get to Darwin's house the door is answered by Darwin's chimpanzee butler (who talks using cue cards) named Mr. Bobo. The Pirate Captain tells Charles that he is going to present Polly at the science fair instead of Charles. So later that night Charles sends Mr. Bobo to steal Polly. The Pirate With a Scarf sees Mr. Bobo stealing Polly and we get a messed up chase scene involving a bathtub, a Easter Island idol, a carpet, and a stuffed elephant (it will make sense when you watch the movie). So the next day The Pirate Captain enters in the contest and wins with Polly. But his prize is just a tiny trophy and a set of encyclopedias, and he gets to meet Queen Victoria (Imelda Staunton). But The Pirate accidentally reveals that he is a pirate and Victoria has him executed on the spot (why there was an executioner in the corner, I don't know). But Charles tells Victoria that only The Pirate Captain knows where Polly is. So Queen Victoria pardons The Pirate Captain for his crimes. Later that night, Darwin tricks The Pirate Captain into telling Charles that he keeps Polly inside his beard (no comment). Charles steals Polly and The Pirate Captain follows Darwin to the Queen. The Queen drops Darwin down a trapdoor and Victoria asks The Pirate Captain if he wants to trade Polly for a bunch of treasure. The Pirate Captain says yes. So he takes the treasure so he can win The Pirate of the year award.

Psycho Queen Victoria |
So The Pirate Captain and his crew go to Blood Island and attend The Pirate of the year award. So The Pirate King (Brian Blessed) gives the award to The Pirate Captain because he has the most treasure. But The Pirate Captain's arch enemy Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) tells the other pirates that The Pirate Captain has been pardoned, which means that he is no longer a pirate. So The Pirate Captain is banished form Blood Island and loses the trust of his crew when he tells them he traded Polly for a bunch of gold. So The Pirate Captain goes back to London where he sells baby clothes. But he runs into Charles who tells The Pirate Captain that the Queen is part of a secret dining society where word leaders gather to eat endangered animals on the Queen`s steamship, and Polly is the main course. When they get to the steam ship they are joined by The Pirate Captain`s crew and Mr.Bobo. We get the climactic battle between The Pirate Captain and Queen Victoria, and The Pirate Captain wins. So The Pirate Captain`s reputation as a pirate is restored Mr.Bobo joins The Pirate Captain`s crew and the Pirates drop Darwin off in the Galapagos Islands and the pirates head off on more adventures. The End
***SPOILERS OVER KEEP READING***
This movie is great. It has a memorable main character not to mention memorable side characters. It also has a very good sense of humor and an awesome soundtrack. But if there is one problem it`s that when telling the moral it feels like they use a lot of clichés. But other than that, it is a good movie. See you next time when I will review....something.
Keaton, Now Uncle Rich and I want to see this movie, based on your review alone!!! Thanks also for the ***spoiler alert***. We love and miss you Keaton. You're doing an AMAZING job!
