Batman: The Movie (1966)

Happy new year everyone. I am back in 2015 and ready for another review. I am reviewing the very first movie about Batman. This movie is based on the 1960's TV show more than the comic books. Let's get to the Batmobile so I can review Batman: The Movie.

We start with Batman (Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward) receiving a distress signal from a yacht out at sea. So they get the Batcoptor and fly out to sea. Batman steps out on the Batladder (on a side note does every thing he owns have to have the word bat before it?) But the yacht disapears and a shark grabs on to his leg. Apparently, this shark is a land skark because it keeps biting Batman even when he is out of the water. Luckily Robin gives Batman the Bat Shark Repellant in time. Oh, and the shark explodes when it hits the water. The Press questions batman on what happened but he gives little comment. Batman tells Commissioner Gordon (Neil Hamilton) that he thinks that someone is behind this. Through some of the most contrived logic possible they suspect that The Joker (Cesar Romero) The Penguin (Burgess Meredith) The Riddler (Frank Gorshin) and Catwoman (Lee Meriwether) are behind the whole thing. Meanwhile it turns out that they are right and that they kidnapped the owner of that yacht Commodore Schmidlapp (Reginald Denny) and tricked him into thinking that he is in control of the ship still. Just one problem, when he is served tea The Joker is the one to do it and for some reason the Commodore doesn't freak out when a clown serves him tea. Is he usually served by clowns?

Batman and Robin figure out that the yacht that disapeared was a hologram being projected by an illegal buoy. They take the Bat Boat out to check it out but Penguin sees them and activates a magnet on the buoy that sticks them to the buoy becuase of the metal items in their utility belts. Penguin plans to shoot them down using torpedoes. But Batman manages to use a signal jamming device to blow the torpedoes up before they reach them. But on the last torpedo the the signal jammer stops working up a random porpoise swims in front of the torpedo and Batman and Robin escape. The villains try and come up with a better plan to stop Batman for good. So they plan to kidnap Bruce Wayne (Batman's secret identity for those of you who don't know) which will lure Batman to their secret hideout then Batman will step on Joker's spring loaded Jack-in-the-Box which will launch him out the window over the ocean and into the arms of The Pneguin's trained exploding octopus. Catwoman disguises herself as a Russian reporter named Kitka and finds Bruce Wayne. She gives Bruce some riddles she "found" and leaves. Bruce goes to the Bat Cave and deciphers the riddles. His conclusion: a Russian person will slip on a banana peel and break their neck......logic? So Batman decides to go to diner with Kitka to keep an eye on her. Joker Riddler and Penguin Kidnap Bruce and take them to their evil lair. Fortunately, he escapes and goes back to the Bat Cave so he and Robin can decide what to do next.

****SPOILER ALERT STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE END RUINED****

The villains master plan of using a dehydration gun to dehydrate  the leaders of the world. But first Penguin tricks Batman into taking him to the Bat Cave and then he tries to attack them but it fails and Penguin escapes and steals the Batmobile. Batman and Robin get in the Batcoptor and chase after him. Riddler launches a missile and shoots down the Batcoptor but fortunately they land in a giant pile of foam rubber at the local foam rubber convention (no comment). They decide that they should run to catch the villains because you know running is the fastest mode of transportation. By the time Batman and Robin get there the wold leaders are already dehydrated and taken away. They find Penguin's submarine and partake in the climax and yes during the fight they have sound effect bubbles when someone gets hit just like in the comics. So the heroes win but the Commodore accidentally smashes all the test tubes containing the world leaders. Batman and Robin finally put them back together and attempt to re-hydrate them. But somethig goes wrong the world leaders minds are put in the wrong bodies. So Batman heroically climbs out the back window leaving Commissioner Gordon to sort things out. So the moral of the story is if you mess up run. The End.

****SPOILERS OVER KEEP READING****

This is a very silly movie. Not bad just silly. I mean the acting is over the top and hammy the villains evil plans to kill Batman are super silly (seriously an exploding shark?). The set design for the bat cave and stuff like the Batcoptor and Bat Boat is nice. But it is so over the top it becomes a parody of itself. So yes I recomend this movie if you a looking for a delicious ham and cheese sandwich that will keep you entertained. See you next time and I can't wait to see the rest of 2015.
