Honey, I Shrunk the Kids

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) PosterI don't think I review enough Disney live action movies. It took me a while to find a good one, but I finally found a winner. So here is the classic Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

The movie starts with a boy named Nick (Robert Oliveri) and his sister Amy (Amy O'Neil) who's father Wayne (Rick Moranis) is working on a machine that makes stuff smaller. But all it is able to do right now is blow things up. Meanwhile their neighbors the Thompson's are going on a fishing trip. Ron Thompson (Jared Rushton) knocks a baseball through the window where the invention is which messes with the circuits and somehow. Ron's brother Russ (Thomas Brown) makes him go to their house to get the ball. But they all stand in the path of the shrink ray and they end up getting shrunk. Just then Wayne decides to sweep the floor and they all end up in the trash bag. They escape the bag only to find themselves on the other side of the backyard and now they have to get to the house.

They come up with the idea of calling their dog but they attract a bunch of bees and they get separated.Wayne figures out what happened walks around on stilts but accidentally ends up activating the sprinklers which to the kids is like a huge flood. The sprinklers stops and the kids find an ant and they decide to ride him to get home faster. Wayne is now using a machine to suspend himself above the grass to avoid crushing the kids and all his neighbours are giving him weird looks. The kids decide to spend the night inside of a Lego brick. In the morning Wayne tells his wife what happened and now they are both using the hovering rig to look through the grass. Meanwhile the kids are                                                                                                 attacked by a scorpion.

The Ant defeats the scorpion and they see that the dog is now in the lawn. They ride the dog into the house and Nick lands into Wayne's cereal. Wayne sees him before he eats Nick and he takes them  up to his lab to fix them. The neighbours decide that he should test it on them first to make sure that it won't blow the children into tiny pieces. The machine works and the kids are returned to normal. The shrink ray is finally perfected and becomes a great scientific device. The End.

***SPOILERS OVER KEEP READING***

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids is a great movie. The effects actually hold up really well especially seeing as it was made in 1989. In fact I would even say these effects are better than some CGI in movies I have seen. The acting is really good and some of them give really funny performances. So Honey, I Shrunk the Kids is an excellent family film I recommend.
