An American Tail

Well if The Secret of NIMH has taught me anything it's that animation and mice go together like peanut butter and jelly. So let's see another animated mouse movie called An American Tail. And let's see if the animation mouse rule is correct by reviewing An American Tail.

The film opens in 1885 Russia where a family of mice named the Mousekewitz live: the mother (Erica Yohn), the father (Nehemiah Persoff), their daughter Tanya (Amy Green), and their son Fivel (Phillip Glasser). One day their village is attacked by cats who are probably part grizzly bear. They decide to go to America because every one says that there are no cats there. They stow away on a ship but Fivel washes overboard and they are separated. Fivel floats to New York where he sees the Statue of Liberty being constructed. With the help of a pigeon named Henri (Christopher Plummer) he makes it to the city where he starts to search for his parents. He meets a rat named Warren T. Rat (John Finnigan) who says that he can help find Fivel's parents. But it turns out that he actually takes him to this crazy looking rat who puts him to work in his work shop. But Fivel and a bunch of other mice escape. Fivel looks for his parents.

Fivel meets another mouse named Tony (Pat Musick) who helps him. They meet another mouse named Bridget (Cathianne Blore) who wants to stop the cats. They all go see a mouse named Honest John (Neil Ross) who knows every mouse in town, but since Fivel's family just got threre he doesn't know them. But Bridget gives a rich mouse named Gussie Mausheimer (Madeline Kahn) an idea to put together a rally against cats. They all come up with a plan; they are going to lure the cats to the docks where they will realease the "Secret Weapon" which will scare them onto a boat and sail them to the other side of the world. But on the day of the plan, Fivel gets lost and falls into a den of cats. The leader of the cats is Warren T. Rat who it turns out is really a cat. The cats spot him and put him in a cage.

***SPOILER ALERT STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT THE END RUINED***

But luckily a friendly cat named Tiger (Dom DeLuise) frees Fivel and he makes it to the docks. The cats come and the secret weapon is released (it turns out the secret weapon is actually a giant robotic mouse). The mouse malfunctions but still manages to chase off the cats, but Fivel is separated from every body. The next day, however, he is reuinited with his whole family. The End.

***SPOILERS OVER KEEP READING***

This is a great movie. The animation is great and it has a good sense of humor, Fivel is a very good main character and of course he is adorable. So I do recomend it as a fun movie for all to see. See you next time for another Planet of the Apes sequel.
